It is like Christmas time in the western countries! You can smell the cheering mood even in the air! People will dress up, children are extremely busy collecting their "hong bao", the money given by the older generations! All sorts of temple fairs, new year's parades, decorated by the most traditional Chinese auspicious symbols! Although, it's normally cold, but it's a world of celebration!
Chinese New Year is the Jan 1 in Lunar calendar, so normally it's between mid-Jan and mid Feb. Although, people normally get 4 days off, but the celebration will last two weeks! Traditionally, people start their preparation a couple weeks ago, shopping for the new year banquets and gifts, cleaning and decorating houses ...The real highlight is the New Year's eve, family will get together and stay up, when time is getting close to mid-night, the mood is really festive: fire crackers all over the world, the phone ringing off the hook with all the new year wishes, and family eating the most traditional dumplings together to celebrate this special moment!
It is a world of happiness! It is truly the best time to experience the real China spiritually!

It is the best time of the year in China and HK, most people are on holidays, but everything still works as usual. Be prepared for crowded trains, buses, airplanes, restaurants, and few hotel rooms available during that time of the year, as people travel back from forth to visit family and friends. I will be there during that time, probably having to sleep on a bench because i always plan -or not plan at all- at the last minute!
