Why don't we help out Mexico? They are much closer than Iraq, and maybe if we worked with them to better the lives of the Mexican people we would not have such a bad illegal immigration problem. The money spent on a fence will really not solve the problem, it could be spent elsewhere. The long term solution is to make Mexico a place people want to live and work in, and even if it's not our job to help them do that, if their government doesn't care enough to do it, isn't it in our own best interest to help out? That is the only way to solve the immigration problem forever. Why don't we help our neighbors?

Very good question. I have written to President Bush on a few occasions, and have received polite and even warm replies. Bush has a much better rapport and understanding of Mexicans than many Anglo-Saxon politicians. I look forward to working with the Bush family and the Republican Party on economic, social, and political issues. We must approach problems constructively, with patience, hope, level-headedness, and persistence. We must never give up trying to resolve things in a way which will work for all. Consensus may seem impractical, but in the long run is a better philosophy than "majority rule."

It is patently false that Mexico has nothing that "you all" want. By you all, I take it you are non-Hispanic, and probably Anglo-Saxon. Many Americans go to Mexico for tourism, to relax, have fun, to learn.

Mexico has large reserves of oil. Mexico has much mineral and agricultural wealth. Mexico has large forest areas which may provide wood for construction, paper and pulp products, energy (bio-mass).

You want our labor, as the lady above admitted. Try doing without labor, specially when "you all" (we, really) are fighting a "global war on terrorism." Such arrogance as displayed above will eventually undo you all.

I think the Americans have much to learn from the steadfast, humble, and tenacious character of the Mexican. Perhaps the most desirable thing would be wisdom. But some of you might not want that. No, Mexico has NOTHING that you want. Right. There are many many Mexican soldiers, airmen and women, marines, and coast guard serving America right now in Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere overseas. Mexicans have served well and honorably in the US military, as well as become a mainstay of the labor economy. Travel about the US. You'll find Mexicans working in many sectors, from the tip of Florida to the west coast of Alaska. (I have met Mexicans who brave the Alaskan Bush winters, and are frugal and industrious, building a future for their selves and helping our economy at the same time).

I was reading an interview between the American Legion magazine journalist and Condoleeza Rice. She discussed the transformational global agenda of the Bush administration.

Maybe you can write to the President and our elected representatives.

I know the Mexican people would be grateful for the willingness and actions of the Americans, as long as the Americans did it in a way that respected Mexican sovereignty.

The USA already gives foreign aid to Mexico. And nothing is being done by the Mexican government to help its own people.Mexico is NOT a poor country.Only its people are poor because the government doesn't do any thing to help them.Instead they are encouraged to go to the USA illegally to work and support their family's back in Mexico.
The amount of remittances sent back to Mexico by illegal aliens it any where from $ 35 to $45 billion dollars each year.It is the 3rd largest income to the Mexican economy. That money contains the taxes that the USA was unable to take, because it was never reported on the income taxes of the illegal, because they DON'T FILE OR PAY INCOME taxes on most of their illegal income. Some do, but it doesn't come near to offsetting the cost to the US for having the illegal in this country.Mexico MUST fix its internal problems and start treating ALL its citizens as human beings and stop catering to only the rich in Mexico.
Mexico heal yourself, help your own people.

We do help out Mexico. We send them 15 million a year and yet Mexico continues to vote against the U.S. in the U.N. Seems to me that Mexico does not want the help. Mexico gets between 15 and 20 Billion a year from illegals sending money from the U.S. to Mexico. It would be hard to convince them that there is another way we can help them get that much into thier economy by other means.

The lies and deceit of all the politicians, they arent helping anyone in Iraq in fact them being there is killing them more than helping. And that is exactly what would happen in Mexico. Those drug lords that we are so afraid of will kill all those who oppose them and side with the US for them its better to just get out of there so they cant hurt them. The US needs to take care of their own country before they go shipping off money anywhere else. Too many people do not have health insurance and are dying everyday due to neglect. Child protective service workers get paid nothing to help take children from bad situations. Im telling you the US is not a healthy place right now and their focus should be for the betterment of here than anywhere else right now.

The problem is Mexico has not threatened us with agression or terrorism. If they only did, then we would attack them fiercely and kill off a million of their citizens or so, rebuild their infrastructure, install a "good" government and give them aid for the next 20 years. That's the problem.

Theres nothing that interests the united states about mexico. so they wont help out or anything. The USA only goes where the USA can benefit from. and by doing so they will look like heros by trying to help out another country. NOT. the united states are a bunch of gold diggers. if you understand what i mean.

Mexico does not have anything that we want. I sort of agree with you on the fact that it would help illegal immigration.
