Read the food labels. I had to cut sodium in my diet due to a kidney disorder. If you're cutting back on sodium, you may find yourself cutting out some of the foods you like but your health is more important than those foods anyway.

What you have to do is start cooking your self and not eat any prepared meals or canned food. All of that has a high amount of sodium, like a frozen dinner is like 1000 mg of sodium, see what I mean? I think it isn't good to drink pop or soda or to use aspartame low cal sweetner. Also fast food has sodium in it too.
So the best way to get rid of high levels of sodium, is to eat fresh vegetables and fruit, boiled or fried eggs, bread, meat and potatoes, or rice, pasta with sauce and meat. Peanuts, nuts, drink water, or fruit juice but read fruit juice package if has sodium in it. drink tea or coffee, milk, if you are lactose intolerant, drink soya beverage, it tastes so excellent in vanilla or chocolate. I use french vanilla Soya beverage for my oatmeal cereal, slice some banana or strawberries on it, add some sugar and pour on the Soya, what an excellent breakfast, that is totally healthy without sodium. Soya has high amounts of calcium, it has 7 g of protein perserving and had Vitamin D which is important to be able to absorb calcium. It has Iron in it, phosphorous, zinc, magnesium etc. Don't eat minute rice, that has also sodium and preservatives. Boil normal rice, add double water to the amount of rice. Eat fresh potatoes, baked, or boiled or mashed, or you can make home made french fries, cut up potatoes into french fry shape and add a bit of salt and oil, mix it up and then bake at 400F for 20-25-30 minutes, or until golden brown, when the time of baking reaches close to the 20 minute or 25 minute time open the oven and check by tasting the french fry if it is done or not done, but maybe you could also bake at 350F. Bake your own chicken breasts, or whole chicken or turkey breast or whole turkey.
I read a lot of articles how fish are contaminated with PCBs and a lot of other bad stuff like radioactive waste and lead etc., because people dump all that in our lakes and oceans. There were even studies made what happened to children whose mother's ate fish while they were pregnant. The children weren't at optimum health and even had learning problems. Before all this water and ocean pollution and radioactive waste, oil, pcbs, the fish was healthy to eat, but not now. And prepared frozen fish also has high amounts of sodium and still is contaminated as I said. Which includes tuna. This should work, and maybe even make you lose weight and feel better, maybe your sodium level was so high that you were getting sodium poisoning. mermaid199

Make your food at home. Watch your sodium intake, it is very unhealthy for you to consume too much sodium, and yet it is also very important to integrate in your diet... Limit yourself to whatever your nutritionist, or if you don't have one, a nutrition guide tells you and nothing more. Really it depends on your wieght and height, and your bodies ability to use the sodium in a productive way.

You buy low sodium or salt free foods. You do need some salt though.

Only eat fresh foods or foods that you personally cook from beginning to end.
That way you control how much sodium you consuming because you prepared it.

Don't add additional table salt (sodium chloride).
Look for "low sodium" pre packaged foods.
Read the nutrition info listed on packaged items and adjust your consumption accordingly.

watch labels, but more importantly, eat fresh - not canned!! But if you have to eat canned, don't put additional salt on.
