Holy Crap!

Because people have deviated from the teachings of the Christ which is of far more import than modern day christians. If each truly sincere person can take a real close look at the teachings of Christ and follow it, the world would be a far better place

Mahatma Gandhi once told the British that all in the world would abide by the teachings set out by Jesus Christ especially the Sermon on the Mount (All Things Therefore that you want Men To Do To You, You also Do likewise) The world would be a peaceful place.

I just wished every then followed this advice and people today would too.

The focus should be on both. See when one professes faith in Jesus Christ the they must learn what he taught and how he lived.
Not WWJD what would Jesus do, but WDJD what did Jesus do.
Teachings like putting others before yourself, treating others in the manner in which you want to be treated yourself. Love God with all your heart, soul, and mind. Love your neighbor as yourself. Lone your enemies. Having compassion ( concerned passion, concerned love) for others.

These are the things that by faith Christians are suppose to to, yet all too often it is just the opposite that happens. Christians become the first to point the finger of blame at others and exclude them because of their judgment and condemnation. The actions and deeds of those that claim Christ are the things that people are suppose to judge. If their faith is real and true then there actions will prove it, but if they are not real then their actions will condemn not only them but Christ in the eyes of those who do not believe.

Ask yourself why don't people choice to believe in Christ? It is easy to see. The actions and deeds of so called Christians, who claim Jesus with their lips and turn around and deny him by their life style. See that to an unbelieving world is what they find unbelievable.

The things Christ taught are about being selfless instead of selfish and that is something that we all just don't want to do. It is very hard yet it sounds so easy. Do I fall short, you bet I do but I don't give up.

So simply put we are suppose to focus both on their teachings and life of Jesus as well as our own actions. It is our actions that will affirm the Faith or condemn us.

Why should you even focus on the teachings of Christ. Focus on the teachings of the Heart. That is where God speaks to you the most.

Because those that want to destroy christianity can't use Christ's teachings because they're perfect, so they have to use the actions of His inperfect followers to try to detract from His message. It's not like islam where you can say Mohammed was wrong about this and that, Jesus wasn't wrong, so you have to use the followers as the bad examples.

Because Christ taught some things that does not support or allow things alot of people like to do now, so the emphasis is less on His teachings and more on tolerance.

Great question!

If we focused on the teachings of Christ and the Bible, we would certainly love more, be more accepting, and be less critical of others, while focusing on bettering ourselves and our own relationship with God.

It would also prevent us from forcing our beliefs on others, but instead inviting them to learn about the truth of our beliefs in such a way that others could see the truth as well.

I think it might help if more modern day Christians reflected the life and teachings of Jesus in their own lives...

Wait a minute...isn't that what we're supposed to be doing, anyhow??

Because often people are watching from afar to see what this Jesus thing has done in the life of those who believe before approaching the possiblity themselves. Then they test the believer to see if they are real or just talking. We are the light that helps to draw others to the source

Christians should be doing their best to live like Jesus. Obviously we all haven't arrived at that point yet and none of us will ever be perfect. I think non believers who are antagonistic toward Christianity look for anything they can find wrong that a Christian does in order to try to prove that their opinions of Christianity are true.

If Jesus were alive today, he'd be a social progressive - nothing like his livin-large followers.

I personally have no problem with him, but a lot of his followers are obnoxious bigots who are runing my country and my world.
