There is a metro station at the Gare du Nord. You buy a ticket like anywhere else. The price is the same for all the stations within one zone (which this is). You ask for "Un plan du metro, s'il-vous plait" and the nice lady behind the screen gives you one free. You look at the plan and see where you have to change, then off you go.
If you have a Paris guide, there is usually a plan of the metro at the back.
Enjoy your stay.Bon voyage!

The Paris metro is very easy to navigate. That is a large station with lots of maps everywhere. You will have no problem. I've included a subway map you will most likely see.

its really easy. Just like the London Tube. There are maps on the walls or get a Paris Guide book, they usually have a copy of it in the back.
