Although the average child may say it a million times in one day, it should always be appreciated. Your child loves you and can express it. I have two children. My daughter is six and there are times that it feels like she says it a million times, but on those days, I have to remember that she loves me and just wants my attention. My son is four and has autism. He is, for the most part, non-verbal. This means that I have only heard him say "mommy" a few times and on those times did not know for sure if he was really saying it because he knew that it meant me or because he got those sounds strung together right. It does not matter. I answer as if he knew because the more I respond to his "words" the more he learns about communication. Someday, the day may come when he has figured out speech and can say "mommy" a million times in one day and I will be the happiest mommy in the world (even if I am frustrated with him) because I know that he loves me.
