IE7 is better:
- it is more secure: phishing filter, address-bar colouring, etc.
- it is lighter: uses less RAM, frees up RAM if you minimise it.
- quick tabs: working with tabs is faster, press CTRL+Q for fun.
- friendly settings: settings are easy to understand.
- activeX: many websites need activeX to run... IE only.
Don't use firefox... only people who are prejudiced against microsoft use it for showing off to other people.

Firefox is superior to all versions of IE. The current version of IE has needed to copy Firefox tabbed browsing to keep up. I have used Firefox for a couple of years now and would never go back to IE despite IE7 (which I have checked out). Firefox is still safer. If you download Firefox try also downloading the Noia Extreme theme. You will not be disappointed - IE7 can't match it.

The security is probably about the same by now. FF has had its fair share of holes. Though Mozilla are much quicker than MS at patching them, and IE is still, and will be for a while, the 'weak target' in a lot of people's minds.
'course, the problem with comparing browsers in terms of safety is that the biggest hole in the safety of a browser is the user, which is how IE got such a bad reputation - it's the browser used by the kind of people who install toolbars and say 'yes' to sites saying they offer free registry scans and virus checks.
My brief go with IE7 was irritating, because the UI wasn't set out how I wanted it to be. At least with FF staying the same you're not really migrating from one to the other.
FF is still a massive memory hog, i'd imagine, whereas IE will probably not be so, though i havent found a PC to put it on yet to test it.
I imagine IE is more stable than FF, though that's probably bias based on the millions of segmentation faults i got with 1.x.x
So, i don't really think either's better than the other. They're different, use whichever one you prefer.

I go with Firefox.
It seems to have more features and add-ons than IE. Safety is not the case really, the 2 browsers have teamed up to create an anti-phishing protection. It's more of who has gotten used to which browser. People used Firefox in the past since it had tabs. Now, people use it and didn't see the reason to change.
That's my opinion though and I use Firefox 2 myself.

I personally like IE7... a lot.
I've only had trouble with Firefox.. maybe it just depends on your computer.
And besides, who cares if IE7 stole ideas, they were GOOD IDEAS. :D
