why do u want your son to come around u calling u papa or daddy, and say that ur a wonderful dad. why do u want ur girlfriend to look up to u and say that ur just a great lover. why do u want ur teacher to say that ur a good student and why do u want ur boss to say that ur his best employee. u feel good about it right.
if u buy ice creams everyday for ur son, even without him asking for it, then ur ice cream has no value at all. where as if he asks u for something and u get it for him, then that product will have its own value both for u and ur son. u r happy that he looked up to u and asked u something and he is happy that when he asks something from u, u happily get it for him immediately. and then he goes and brags about his great and wonderful daddy to all his friends. and u like it, dont u. some sort of boost for u right, for all that u've done for him.
u may know whatever he wants, and if he gets everything even before asking, then he may not even realise your existance.
same with God Almighty Father. He said "Ask and it shall be given unto you, seek and ye shall find, knock and the door shall be opened unto you, so ask, seek and knock." so that we pray and ask for things already he knows that u want, but it is the prayer that is important, or we take even God for granted. and only when u ask and receive, do u thank Him for it.
if u r born with a silver spoon, wont u take it for granted, that all ur wishes are there even before u asked for it, so u dont even know that u wanted it in the first place. only if there is darkness, do u enjoy that candle light dinner, only if there is winter do u appreciate that warm summer. only if u shed a couple of tears, do u realise the value of happiness, only if u r away from a loved one, would u miss him or her, and feel the love towards them, if they are around u never know in the first place, how much u love them or will miss them, if they're not around.
so God loves to listen to petitions and answer them, and loves thanksgiving and testimony.

When did God ever say that we need to praise him? Some of those religious books we are reading might be saying that, but is it not man himself who wrote those books. And the way most people are, they have a tendency to translate their own emotions in what they write. If they have great admiration for something they want others to admire it as much as they do.
I don't think that God himself would have wanted us to praise him. Rather, he would have wanted to be on our minds all day round so that we think twice before saying and doing anything.
Don't take offense, but personally I think that even the prayers we say doesn't interest God. It is our actions and thoughts that matter to him. What's the use of saying prayers and praising God a lot when after that we'll return to what we do everyday: harming people left and right.

A Quranist's perspective: 1- The question is obviously due to some misconceptions. The Quran uses the word "Ibada" which is translated as "Worship". The English word worship and even Urdu word "Ibadat" have the same meaning, BUT !!! it is NOT the same word as the Arabic word Ibadat and its USUALLY derived meaning by the Arabs. The word "Ibadat" in Quranic terminology AS WELL as "Arabic" means "Being slave to". So deriving the meaning that God keeps asking us to pray by using the word "Ibadat", is a SERIOUS mistake. 2- The word "Salat" which is used in Arabic to mean the 5 daily prayers with its rules etc. This too is a misconcept for the NON-Quranists. The word Salat in the Quran has been used 76 times. And more than +60 times it means OTHER than the daily prayers. The translators use it to mean the daily 5 prayers. But any serious reader of the Quran, knows that it means other things, which most people don't understand and will NOT understand. The word Salat has MULTIPLE and in fact a barrage of meanings i.e. 1- To follow in footsteps. 2- To support. 3- To do justice and advocate justice. 4- To be obedient to God. The 5 daily prayers (as per Reformists 3 only), are AMONG the 4 religious rights that were decreed on Ibrahim as a gift. Before Ibrahim there were "NO" religious practices. OR very very few. Most of the time the people used to make sacrifices to please God. Ibrahim wanted to be a righteous and beloved person of God (and he indeed was). So he prayed for the same. As a result God gave him the GIFT of the 4 religious rights i.e. Salat, Zakat, Hajj and fasting. Ibrahim also prayed that he should be righteous to the point that it is an example for the people to come. God approved his prayer and thus decreed it on the people to follow. These are all religious rights that bring us closer to God. And to His mercy and blessings. Take the example of Jews. The righteous and unrighteous were among ALL the people. The Jews were given the FIRST set of commandments. They were blessed by God (and even NOW , those who uphold his commandments are blessed) out of all the people in the world, as long as they upheld them. This does NOT mean that there are no righteous people among the other people of the world. It just adds a bonus on top of righteousness. The question is "How" much do you love God ??? If you love him and need more of His blessings and want to be closer to Him, you would comply with the rights He has instituted. On the other hand if you don't, you won't. Another question can be, do the people who DON'T observe the religious rights are necessarily Evil. The answer is "No". In fact you would find many who are better and righteous than the ones who would be in strict compliance to the religious rights. The obvious question that comes to the mind is: then what is their status ?? Ans (A Quranists perspective): Compliance to religious rights Alone, is MEANINGLESS, unless the Ibadat (obedience and slavery) is NOT for God Alone. The person who commits evil and corruption on earth, has a god that is OTHER than God. Thus ALL his deeds stand nullified. The compliance to religious rights is "ONLY" beneficial, when the person is a TRUE slave and worshipper of God. It is then, when the compliance to religious rights adds the bonus and the punch to the effort.

I don't believe He "needs" it, I think He enjoys it. The Bible says we enter His gates with thanksgiving and we enter His courts with praise. Also, it says that we should put on the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. So, praise does good things for us as well as for God. It causes us to be in closer communication with Him and it lifts the spirit of depression from us.

I don't believe that God NEEDS us to praise Him.
I think that God is such that He never sets us up to fail. Therefore, He gives us the answers to life, to what things will help us get what we need, to how to behave, etc. He tells us to be grateful, to praise Him, to worship Him, to love Him because He doesn't expect us to know or do anything that He doesn't clearly tell us.
Everything He expects us to do, say, expect, etc., He writes out for us in the Bible, including telling us to praise Him. Praising Him does things for us... for example, it's invokes or invites His presence in our situations and it also causes Him to move in our behalf.
"He inhabits the praises of His people..."

I would personally like to know when God said that we had to praise him.
I pray i ask him for guidance i tell him all my needs wants and desires and then i get them when i least expect it. That is about it.
If you talking about paising God in a manner to invite others to praise him as well i do not do that.

here's an analogy that should sort of get my view across. if you bought a nice ant farm and put ants in it, you would expect your ants to do what ants do and build a nice ant hill. when the ants do their job you feel good. the ant farm becomes pleasant to look at and you feel good because the ants have "praised" you by doing their job/ full filing their purpose. with that in mind, God feels good when we humans praise him or fulfill our purpose here on earth which is to love one another and be fruitful. although God has all the love he needs via the Holy Trinity, he extends his emotions to his greatest creation, humans.

We were created by Him for one and the purpose was for us to live in a perfect world in harmony and to worship Him (God) in love. Sin has tainted that so much that we don't even know God anymore and his character and will for us. However, in the Bible we are given a glimpse into his character and will for us, I invite you to read your Bible from the beginning to the end and also I will share these helpful links with you.

Psalm 54:6
I will sacrifice a freewill offering to you; I will praise your name, O LORD, for it is good.
Hebrews 13:15
Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that confess his name.
God wants our praise, now that Jesus has come, and died on the cross for our sins- he has taken away that sin offering- as they were to offer sin offerings in the Old Testament....now we are to give a sacrifice of PRAISE unto God- this is his will for us. He wants our continual praise- God is the one to be glorified- and knowing what HE has done on the cross for us, should make us WANT to praise him continually~
Colossians 1:16
For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him.
Psalm 92:1
[ How Great Are Your Works ] A Psalm. A Song for the Sabbath.It is good to give thanks to the LORD,to sing praises to your name, O Most High;
Matthew 21:16
"Do you hear what these children are saying?" they asked him. "Yes," replied Jesus, "have you never read, " 'From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise' ?"
Hebrews 13:15
Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that confess his name.
