A dermatologist or esthitisian can advise you on glycolic or lactic acid peels. These take off the top layer of the skin and smooth it out. Sometimes you need several treatments with severe scaring. These peels have no "down time" and are relatively inexpensive. Sometimes they will recomend a TCA peel which will cause peeling and have a recovery time of 2-3 weeks. (you will look sunburned)

Good luck!

The only way to actually "get rid" of a scar is surgically. Which is a bit extreme. There are great products out there to help minimize the appearance of scars though. Mederma, which used to be sold by prescription only, is a great product. You can get it over the counter just about anywhere now and it works great. My daughter had a scar on her forehead and we used Mederma on it. The scar was five years old by the time we had heard of it but it still worked. Granted we had to use two tubes of it before she got the results she wanted but it was worth it. Now you have to know where the scar is to even notice it. I think it would work great for you and it's fairly inexpensive.

A cosmetic dermatologist should be able to offer some advice on removal methods. It can become expensive depending on how severe the scarring is.
