there is no legislation against beating students in india. students r too scared to do anything about it. students do not have the freedom to approach NGOs.
teachers turn a blind eye to corporal punishment. parents show cool indifference
india is on the edge of 2 worlds. one is the ancient world, where students r tradition bound to "worship" their gurus. the other is the new world, where all students have equal freedom. in such a situation, teachers force students to remain tradition bound, while students insist on freedom. so, beating, spanking and everything else follows
Lets hope we soon see the Corporal Punishment (Abolition) Act introduced!! would u support it?

I used to be a teacher in what is referred to as a Level 5 school.
This school was used to teach kids with one foot in jail and the other on a banana peel, and is also known as a "hands-on" school.
If a student there was a threat to others, property, or themselves they were dealt with under a program called "Therapeutic Crisis Intervention". This including using minimum force to get the student to comply with rules and to de-escalate the event while teaching the student how to avoid such behavior in the future. There was also a very active process in which the students were constantly coached and taught how to control themselves in everyday situations that they might not like and respond to in a- shall we say- violent manner.
Now, with that experience, I can tell you- first hand- that by removing the "threat" of corporal punishment (and implementation of that punishment after all other avenues have been exhausted) we have given these kids reign rather than teaching them that unacceptable behavior is met by proper response- physical, if necessary.
Go ahead, sue the teachers because they reacted after being assaulted. Go ahead, save the a**es of the little darlings. I was stabbed 3 times (with pens) at the school, and I can assure you that those kids do not respond well to "love and attention" unless discipline is also invoked.

this is not teachers fault. because they handled one class morethan 40 students. every one is not in good performance. some times they misbehave in class room. than the school HM ask them to give good result from the class. teachers also human, some time.. some times only they get angry those students not perform well, or not listen them.now days if the teachers scold any one, they are try to go for suicide, or they act that they take poison. this problem not only from the teachers, to solve this- parents, school correspondent, teachers altogether discuss than may be it will solved. the govt dont care about this. they now days selling the education to the rich people by making university level. now hawker like that the school admission and the collage admission happened, where the govt involved?

I feel genuinely anguished reading your question, myself being the father of a school going child.
But first, please mind your spellings and grammar. The word is 'beaten' and not 'beated'.
Tell me, do your teachers in school beat you regularly for writing such spellings? Then read this carefully - your teachers are beating you to cover up their own inefficiency and their failure to teach you to spell properly. You have been punished for no fault of yours.
While some children are of exceptional merit, there are some who find it somewhat difficult to pick up their lessons easily. Different techniques must be adopted by teachers to help them understand. Some children are hyper-active. In order to discipline them various modern methods can be brought to use. Schools themselves, must ban the mediavel practice of corporal punishment like spanking or caning with immediate effect. But unfortunately schools while emphasising modernity in various spheres continue to believe in the age old dictum of 'Spare the rod, spoil the child'.
So the government or the judiciary must take some steps to end this evil once and for all, as the Delhi High Court has recently done about admission tests in schools. Legislation must be brought about to end corporal punishment in schools. Offending teachers must be stripped of their jobs and jailed. Only then shall we see the end of this heinous practice. Thank you very much for courageously raising this extremely relevant question in a public forum. Hope your concern reaches the ears of the powers that be.

I don't know where you are from, but here in the UK corporal punishment ended a long time ago - no teacher is legally allowed physically punish a child.
I agree that violence just breeds violence...
But our softly softly approach to discipline is not really working either, where kids walk around in gangs and kill pensioners...

It was said earlier that lato ke bhoot batoen se nahin mante. But now I think this saying about kids is not correct. We can better make future of our country by treating children psychologically. Instead of beating students we should try to know their basic problems. These problem can be of their poor health, poor background.

What country do you live in? I know they used to do this in England, but I thought it had been banned years ago.
I agree with you. Using violence on children only teaches them that violence is the way to solve problems and conflict.
You have my sympathy. You sound like a sensitive person.
