well it depends on how you know her or if you know her at all.... if she is in your class you could talk about homework, ask for notes, especially in a subject she is good at or better than you....if you are in church together or any sort of community talk about stuff you have in common...
If you dont know her yet you could just wait a while, start with a smile when you see her; she will smile back, say hi a second time, and a third, and if she seems to respond to you you could stop and say something about the weather/your dog...
etc!

As for rejection bit I think doesn't matter what you say it is not possible to eliminate it completly but if you take it "elegantly" who knows - she might change her mind and talk to you after all.

just go with the frame of mind that you're not chatting her up! YOu guys think way too much into it! We love it really! Just slide up alongside her and give her a hi - if she doesnt like you - you'll be ignored! If she does she'll say hi back - ask her how shes getting on? what does she think of the place? If she chats away to normal civil questions you're more than likely in there and can progress to more personal flirty questions! Go for it!! xx

The best way to get some ones attention is by seriously being your self and not trying to be some one your not!, because girls have that sence that your fake. just walk up to her when you both are not busy, and complement her on anything and carry on a short conversation. after that it's up to you if you want to take it further.

To be honest, its not so much about what you say, as how you say it and the aura you project when you say it. If you walk up to her resigned to the fact that she is gonna tell you to go bark at the moon........ she will tell you to go bark at the moon. You need to be confident but not over confident and don't ask her a yes or no question either.
