Alright... so christians believe that god is .... well... the "thing" that created the Universe, loves them, watches them masturbate... has some grand plan that involves slaughtering millions in natural disasters and wars all for some unknown greater good...
... And they believe that Jesus is both the son of god and god himself (entirely drawing what he was physically made of into question)... and that somehow his being crucified for heresy was all part of the grand plan and means in some completely counterintuitive way that god will NOT slap you around in the afterlife for every time he has seen you masturbate... provided you assume the position and have a little chit-chat with him on a regular basis.
So.... what the sweet heck is the "Holy Ghost" all about?
Is it some counterpoint representing death opposed to Jesus representing life? Is it just Jesus haunting the mortal world and going "woooo" to christians? What is it, and why even bother having such a thing?

Note for christians: Don't try to convert me. I just want a straight-forward, sensible answer. Don't quote the bible at me either, because that silly book never explains itself either. Moreover... don't go blathering the whole "praise Jesus" crap at me....
Anyone partaking of the above will have their positive karma eaten by me... personally.... and you really don't want to be left with a heavy karmic imbalance... trust me on that.

Query for daisykristina: So you're saying that god needs some form of additional medium in order to engage in two-way communication with humanity?
Funny... I always figured christians thought of their god as omnipotent, and an omnipotent being certainly wouldn't need some special 3rd medium inbetween. ^_~
Oh... and thanks for at least being clear in your response.

Response for angeltress: Yes... I eat karma... or if you prefer, "luck". If I eat someone's positive karma, they are left with more negative karma... and bad things happen to them. If I eat their negative karma, they are left with more positive, and good things happen to them. I know from experience that I have a tendency to drain both sorts from people I interact with regularly and leave them more balanced. Don't know why... I just do.

Response for pkdepp: I said no bible-quoting. Didn't I say no bible-quoting? ... Better to let people think you're an idiot than to open your mouth and prove them right, hmm? ... Retard. ¬_¬

I think what they believe is there is the God (creator), Jesus (the physical link to God)), and the Holy spirit (brings ppl to God). It's like some medium that links them to Jesus and therefore to God. I think. It is all very confusing and very ignorant. And what the heck does Jesus dying on the cross have to do with my "sins"??/ I never got that one.....

The Holy Ghost is a member of the Godhead, it's primary purpose is to testify of the truth, and sanctify us.
The Holy Spirit often helps people discern right from wrong, keeps them safe from harm, and is the medium through which God can inspire us and answer our prayers.
It is sometimes described as the still small voice because it communicates directly to the heart and mind - and if you're noisy inside it can be hard to feel.
Learning how to tell when the Holy Spirit is communicating with you is one of the most important skills a person can gain in this life.
I'm not "trying to convert you" just giving you info, so you can understand a little better. Just so you know - a lot of what you mentioned about God and Jesus aren't close to what I believe.
Thanks

Before Jesus ascended to the father He said that He would send a comforter. When the Comforter came that believers would receive power. That Being the Comforter is the Holy Ghost (Spirit). He is spoken of by Peter, a close follower of Jesus, to be God. Because Peter was so close to Jesus we believe that he was telling us the truth and the Holy Spirit is also God... Jim

The Spirit of the living God. When God created Adam, He breathed His life into him. He became a living being. When Adam sinned, the Holy Spirit left him, and his nature changed. That is why Jesus said that we must be born again. Spiritually. When a person becomes born again, the Holy Spirit enters their soul.

Gospel According to Saint Luke
Chapter 8
5 The sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it.
6 And other some fell upon a rock: and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it had no moisture. 7 And other some fell among thorns, and the thorns growing up with it, choked it. 8 And other some fell upon good ground; and being sprung up, yielded fruit a hundredfold. Saying these things, he cried out: He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. 9 And his disciples asked him what this parable might be. 10 To whom he said: To you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God; but to the rest in parables, that seeing they may not see, and hearing may not understand.
11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. 12 And they by the way side are they that hear; then the devil cometh, and taketh the word out of their heart, lest believing they should be saved. 13 Now they upon the rock, are they who when they hear, receive the word with joy: and these have no roots; for they believe for a while, and in time of temptation, they fall away. 14 And that which fell among thorns, are they who have heard, and going their way, are choked with the cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and yield no fruit. 15 But that on the good ground, are they who in a good and perfect heart, hearing the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit in patience.

Excusing your rudeness and ignorance;Holy Spirit or Ghost as you put it refers to God's invisible active force. It is what He uses to accomplish his purpose.
It is not a person,as Trinitarians would have you believe.
