No. The outside of the turkey would start to cook long before the inside ever got defrosted. The whole thing will come out yellow and gross. The best thing to do is brine your turkey. Alton Brown, who has a Food TV show called "Good Eats," explained the process and the science of how to do this in a safe, healthful way on his Thanksgiving special a few years ago. It works great! You need a bucket, some salt, and some spices. Check out Food TV's website for info.

But don't microwave it - you'll ruin it.

You can defrost just about anything in the microwave but be mindful that if you choose to defrost it that way you should cook it immediately after. Also, be careful not to defrost to much and begin cooking it in the microwave, because that will dry out the edges badly.
If you can defrost it by placing in the fridge overnight.
The length of time that you defrost it will depend on the power level of your microwave and the weight of the ground turnkey that you are drefrosting, but probably about 1.5 minutes per pound. Hope this helps

It may take a few days to fully defrost. Look for an expiration date on package but I would say it should be fine as long as it is not past expiration date

I personally think it is best to let it thaw in the fridge. (I usually put mine in about 2 days before).

You can also place it under running cold water. (Do not let it sit in a sink of water)

They say 20 minutes for every lb. when it comes to defrosting.

Yes. Just use the same setting you have for regular hamburger.

If you were defrosting a whole turkey then I would leave it out over night and let it dethaw.

It's best not to use the m/w on such a large bird. I suppose if you had the right type of m/w, you coudl hit Defrost, then tell it how much the bird weighs and see what it does.

If you have time, thaw it in it's wrapper, on a large platter or dish, in the fridge for 2-3 days.

Or to hurry it along, under COLD running water that is constantly running, not just soaking.

I thaw mine in a bucket of salt water. I use sea salt, and let it stay in the water for about 48 hrs. I change the water 2x's before it is all said and done. I like the way the turkey tastes when I do it this way. It keeps it from being so dry. My opinion only!!!

leave it over night in a deep dish :p

It must be thoroughly defrosted and microwaves may not do this fully, beware of salmonela poisoning.
