does anyone know anything bout this new law that just past on the boarders ? my family all live in united states and i see them often and now i hear noone can get in or out starting jan without a passport ... i have one but its expired and cost so much to renew right now ..!! i live in canada but im so scared of never being allowed to cross boarder without the passport ,, i am american so im also scared that i might get thru to states side but not be able to get back to canada ...

This was an original proposal and there has been lots of discussion on the border issue with the Canadian Gov't. and I presume Mexico. Right now it appears that border id. cards perhaps on drivers licenses may be used. It is still all being discussed and every time a proposal is made the businesses on both sides of the border and borders states speak up. It will take awhile to come up with a workable plan.

If you are from the USA and you let your passport expire in Canada, then I gotta question your legal status in Canada. Yes, legally from what I understand you will need a current passport to re-enter the USA after Jan 1st.. The total cost for the photos and the passport does not exceed $100 US. There are many open, unwatched border lines along US/Canada. You can get back in without one. I strongly suggest that you return to the US as soon as possible and renew your passport. It sounds like you are an illegal alien in Canada. In the USA that's obviously not a big deal since the laws are not enforced at all, but you may encounter future problems in Canada if you do not obtain legal status.

i cross travel the border. get your passport. it is now 87 if it makes you feel better Canada is a lot more expensive and they have to have a qualified professional sign the app if they knew them for 3 yrs. Ours our govt does our checks. BTW if you owe child support you will not get one or you will not be allowed back in.
For Canada oh it is now 2 yrs they changed it. this is who most guarantee your existance, so to speak lol!
