have pretty long days, as I am working full time and pursuing my MBA. When I get home from work, I feel tired and stressed. Since there is only a limited number of hours before I have to go to sleep, I don't have time to do anything "fun." I just eat dinner, study, and get ready for bed. However, to relax myself, I turn on the TV in my room and put on the "sleep" function and basically fall asleep to it. My bf feels that I should not watch TV before going to bed as that disrupts my sleep. I have a lot of trouble sleeping as it is and I find it easier to sleep with the TV on because it distracts my mind and prevents me from thinking and worrying about everything on my mind. Is there anything wrong with falling asleep to the TV?

I do not watch anything like news or other shows showing violence...and I just turn on something I am not too interested in so I don't end up staying up and watching it.

Other then the fact you are setting yourself up to have to watch tv for the rest of your life in order to go to bed. Just make sure you put the sleep on for right after you normally fall asleep because the tv screen will disrupt your sleep. Just because you fall asleep doesn't mean you are sleeping well in a deep sleep. Just like computer screens the light emmited from TVs will cause part of you brain to work on focusing on that. YOu can always try a warm bath, tea, meditation, or even something "fun" might wear you out. Good Luck soon enough everything will be normal for yhou!

It depends on what you have on the TV. Some people believe in watching the news before they fall asleep. As you know there is alot of negativity on the news and to view or hear it as the last thing of the day may put you thoughts in a negative state. To say anything is wrong with it I say no if it helps you sleep then why stop?

I don't know about falling a sleep to the TV but I can say that you need time to relax because you have a full plate. I know how it is though because I do the same thing, take care of a man (full-time right there), go to school and work full time. You should try taking moments during the day to relax. You might sleep better.

I don't believe so, cause I do the same thing. If you set the timer for the TV to shut off (after you doze off), how is that going to disrupt your sleep? Some people need perfect silence to fall asleep, others like us need the TV or Radio on, so our mind will shut off the problems of the day.

i think your bf is right. what you should do is listen to some really calming music like the ocean or something really relaxing. i usually have my laptop in my room hooked up to my system and play it really softly. the sound of the ocean (i live in new york) is extremely relaxing...from there, apply a mixture of peppermint oil with non-scented lotion to your neck and upper body. peppermint (can buy at gnc or vitamin cottage) relaxes the body and will ease your muscles. don't apply too much because then it will burn!! perhaps your bf would be into this new calming experiment and that way, you two can relax together and even have a cute little makeout session! breathe in deeply a couple of times and exhale slowly, feeling your muscles relax...also, having a tv in your room can be very disruptive to your sleep. try removing it from your room one night and see if there is a difference. i hope this helps.

eH....It just depends. If you are using it as a distraction, why not try a sound making machine. I have one in my room that sounds like a waterfall and I LOVE IT. it really does help me fall asleep and keep me asleep. I too suffer from sleepless nights (all my life) where I think too much about things that are going on and cant sleep... So I focus on the sound machine and it works great. I also take half a tablet of tylenol PM to help me, its non addictive and works good for me. Good luck

Tv does interupt your sleep but if it turn it's self off it is not bothering you. Some people need a distraction to fall asleep

You go for it girl, there is nothing wrong with watching the telly to fall asleep, I do it all the time, I always fall asleep whilst watching the TV, also listening to music helps me. You do what you want, if it works for you then he should not interfere

He is wrong, everybody goes to sleep differently. I need peace and quiet, but my wife falls asleep with the TV on. So, everybody is different.
