There is just a slight difference, and it is not in the cosmetics. It is hardly noticeable to the end-user. RC1 contains several bugs (security mostly) that had been patched. Other than that, the functions, tools and cosmetics designed remained the same.

Despite the petty "MS SUX" ranting, IE7 RC1 was still in the testing/feedback stage, as with any software product which is at pre-release stage. By RC1, generally most of the bugs would be dealt with; and interface is usually sorted out by the end of a "beta" phase thus now visible changes.

A move to final release simply means that a product is stable and secure enough for release in its own right - although of course as with any new product, there will be updates as new bugs or incompatibilities arise :)

Hi,

Microsoft and most other companies release their software in a number of stages:
Alpha - very early test release, generally internally and to some developers in larger companies to test
Beta - next test phase, usually released to the general public for feedback and real life testing to help remove more bugs
RCx - Release Candidate number x, a possible release version that is still for testing

With the betas and release candidates, you will generally not notice any user interface differences. The differences are more so behind the scene, by fixed issues that have caused crashes, memory leaks, security holes etc...

HTH

It's probably nothing you can see. I can only assume RC1 is buggier than the full version. But then again, it's Microsoft we're talking about here. It's always buggy.
