I'm doing a cake for one of my friends going back into the Army. I wanted to do a camo covering instead of regular one color icing to cover the cake. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get the cake to look like camo?

Not fondant because most people don't eat it even though they think it looks pretty. Royal icing is ok for tiny accent decorations but most don't eat it, especially over a large surface since it hardens, and most folks at least in the US are used to soft icing. Either do buttercream or cream cheese or even chocolate buttercream icing.
