The Bible is here telling about the birth of a child, a prince. In time this ‘son of a king’ was to become a great ruler, “The Prince of Peace.” He would have charge of a truly wonderful government. This government will bring peace to the whole earth, and the peace will last forever. The child, whose birth was foretold in Isaiah 9:6, 7, was Jesus.
He is called here mighty, but not Almighty. This title is for his father Jehovah only. Even Satan is described in the scriptures as a god (2 Corinthians 4:3,4) Notice, it says ‘prince’ not king. So, when it is talking about Jesus here, it doesn’t mean that he is God himself.
Other scriptures support this.
JOHN 1:18 - no man has seen God AT ANY TIME (many saw Jesus)
JOHN 14:28 - the Father is greater than the Son (contradicting the trinity teaching that they are co-equal etc)
Jesus is the mediator between God and man
A mediator cannot be one of the two parties, it must be a separate person entirely
So, when we get the full picture, a full examination of the scriptures, we see that Jesus & God are two separate persons.
The kingdom or government that it is speaking of is the one that we pray for at Matthew 6:10 and it is mentioned at Daniel 2:44. We await that time with anticipation.

The bible is full of contradictions, the text you mention could have been added by anyone do you really think that Isaiah actually wrote wrote those words down.
I have a message for you all. The Redmonk has had a vision from God and in that vision God has given him a direct commandment which affects the whole world. God said that all wars must stop. God has bade the monk to pass on a warning to all.
The killing and maiming of innocent woman, children and men that seek no violence must stop, God says that those that cause the violence will be punished and has given the date of the 23rd of January 2007 as the first clear warning that he means business. Peace must arrive before that date otherwise those that continue the violence will be at risk. A Natural disaster out of all proportion will befall the perpetrators. Beware the 23rd of January. A new religion is to be formed called the Universal Doctrine all nationalities and creeds must conform to this new Religion and discard their old Idiolect ways. Be warned

So do you actually Believe what I have just said? of couse not, but why? how do you know I am not a prophet, Who actually has the say to confirm whether I am or not a prophet. May be 'God' but he has spoken to me and I have passed his message on to you. So are you saying that once god has said somthing he can't change his mind.
I can answer all your jeers and non complemetary remarks, I am not a prophet and have no wish to be blighted with the curse of religion that over the years has caused more misery and heartache than any damage an Atom Bomb could ever cause. All men were are and will be born equal and are free to believe in any cause they wish unless forced to believe by persecution but if a man thinks clearly he will know that god is in all men and what may have been acceptable four thousand years ago is not acceptable now. Man has the right to adapt to the times he lives and the laws of God have the ability to change with those times. In the text you are talking about Isaiah is not talking about jesus he is talking about the evolvement of man and the way Man will be but his prophecy is a long long way off: when we cease to be animals with a blood lust, only then will we transpose into the sons of god.

6For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
The King James Version, (Cambridge: Cambridge) 1769.
If you study the rest of your Bible especially the New Testament you will find that the person being spoken of is the Lord Jesus Christ, and these are the positions he will hold when he returns to this earth at some future time and establishes His Fathers Kingdom here upon this world read learn and be prepared for that day for surley it is near.

quoting...

>>Isaiah 9:6"That the government may be increased, and of peace there be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to establish it, and to uphold it through justice and through righteousness from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of HaShem of hosts doth perform this. "<<

this seems very clearly to say that when the Messiah comes that God's kingdom, through the throne of David (kingdom of israel) will stand forever.

this is how its supposed to work... and one reason why Judaism does not consider Jesus to be the messiah, becaues part of the job of the Messiah, is to rebuild God's Kingdom on earth.

the problem with saying its jesus... well the kingdom part didn't happen.

and as you've seen here... most have a misunderstanding on the numbering, because some christian bibles dont know how to count.

So in the middle of rambling about the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, adversaries of Rezin, and changing sycamores into Cedars, this late bronze age mystic shoots off something about the line of David being restored by the birth of a male.

What's to explain? Just typical OT drivel!

Or are you one of those who some how manage to extrapolate this and twist it into somehow prophesying the birth of Jesus? Pretty poor prophesy, especially as it didn't come true! If J of N had any real existence, he certainly didn't have the 'government' of Israel or anywhere else fall on his shoulder. Nor did he restore the line of David, bring peace or any of the other things!

All in all, it's about as impressive as Uri Geller's football predictions!

By the way, how do YOU explain Isaiah 45:7?

Brilliant question, pity you didn't quote the verse save ev'ryone fron searching out there bibles. It clearly speaks of the divinity of Jesus Christ. unfortunately the people who most need to read it won't have a bible. so I;ll print the verse hear. Isiah ch9 v6. For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

The verse prophesies, that a son (Jesus Christ) will be God, with the father.

I should also add, Before muslims start saying that it has been edited through history that this book has been found almost complete from before the time of Christ. which agrees completely wirh our modern bible.

This is a Messianic prophecy. A royal child will be born Who will be particularly ours -- He is given to us, as a world and He will rule over us. Each of the descriptive ephithets given consists of two parts. Wonderful Counsellor: He will be a King Who will determine upon and will carry out a programme of action which will cause the world to marvel. Almighty God: He will be divine and all powerful, with the attributes of a warrior. Everlasting Father: He will be an enduring, eternal compassionate and caring provider and protector. Prince of Peace: His rule will bring wholeness and well being to individuals and society. The Hebrew word shalom has the feel of wholeness as well as peace.

According to the footnotes in my Bible,

"This child who would become their deliverer is the Messiah, Jesus. Matthew quotes these verses in describing Christ/s ministry (Matthew 4:15,16). The territories of Zebulun and Naphtali represent the northern kingdom as a whole. These were also the territories where Jesus grew up and often ministered; this is why they would see a 'great light.' "

Isaiah 9:6
For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, [2] Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

The verse seems pretty straight forward I'm not quite clear what your question is. Could you please clarify your question?
