Keep encouraging him to, but be patient. He's not that old! Some children just have a hard time adjusting to this. We've trained them their whole lives to poop in a diaper, now we want them to change and sometimes we're not very patient. :-) He'll get there eventually. My son is 4 and has special needs, and he still isn't potty trained. I'm working on him, and i think he can do it, but his resistance to change has really made this a frustrating battle. Don't give up, but don't ruin your relationship with the little guy either. It's not worth it over poop!

Patience and persistence. Do NOT put the nappy back on - in fact get rid of them. Make sure he has a toddler seat on the loo so he doesn't feel like he is going to fall in. Stay there with him (sit outside the loo with the door open) some kids won't stay alone in the scary toilet for long. I've known 4 year olds that will old out for the nappy and that is not good.

I saw an episode on that on the life networks Life's Real Families. They had to go as far with this kid as using a suppository because he was afraid to poo because he was a bit constipated and it hurt sometimes. They had to get him over the fear of going poo on the toilet.
I saw on Dr.Phil that they were able to potty train resistant by first, having the child teach a doll how to do it, because if they can teach it they feel like they know how to do it and have more confidence and no reason not to do it themself. The they would reward the kids by having a little party when he went with blowhorns and party hats.... they got them to cooperate within a few hours. But that would depend how advanced the child is to understand.
my sister in law kept halloween size Smarties candy and gave them one each time they went. Seemed to work well.

One thing I did with one of my sons when he was that age was to anticipate (this is hard to do) when the event needed to occur. I would sit him on the potty and make him stay there until the business was complete. It takes a lot of patience, but it worked. After about 5 minutes one time, he looked up and said, "Daddy, I don't need to go." I had him promise to tell me when he needed to go and he did from then on (only about 2 accidents after that). I also put regular underwear on him and told him that he was a big boy now (the diapers were history from then on). I think the removal of the diaper from his "vocabulary" did more to train him than my time sitting with him. Good luck.

When he asks, then tell him "Lets try sitting on the potty like a big boy first!!!"
Make it into a game, tell him he gets a surprise after he goes poopy. Give him a sticker, or let him watch his favorite movie. Make it a special time, and make sure to praise him for all he does!!!

I had that exact problem with my daughter. We put a chart on the fridge and gave her a star every time she used the potty. If that doesn't work, you just have to be patient he will eventually use the potty for everything. Good luck.

Chain him to the toilet until he goes. Make sure to do this daily until his will is broken. You will find that chains and a little time will help you accomplish a lot with all children, yours our someone elses. Do note that I am not an expert with children, nore do I have any of my own so it might be best to ask an expert on the best way to chain up your son.
