Yes, it's called a water (or juice) fast.

You can lose a lot of weight quickly, but you typically gain it all back when you come off the fast... many fasts don't give your body the proper nutrients it needs, therefore, you spend the whole time craving these nutrients and tend to eat quite a bit afterwards.

I'd recommend researching a good juice fast that incorporates all of the nutrients your body needs if you're really interested in this... don't just start drinking nothing but water or juice, or you'll do a lot more harm than good.

(And milk is really not good for fasting... in my opinion, it's not good for anything, as humans are the only species that drink the mammary gland extract of another animal. It really isn't good for you at all, and many people actually are allergic to it and don't know it. But, enough ranting... )

Basic, surefire way to lose weight: take in fewer calories than you burn up. This will apply whether you're doing *just* liquids (which is boring, and not very healthy), or a good mixed diet.

Liquids by themself are not magic, sorry. One Lent I decided to be virtuous (and lose a little weight at the same time), so I cut out soda pop----and replaced it with fruit juices and milk. Much more nutritious in terms of nice vitamins and minerals, BUT those are still "calorie-dense" and packed on a few pounds....

Some people DO swear that drinking some additional fluids (say, an extra glass of water before a meal) seems to help by making you feel a little FULLER, but remember, you're just going to lose it on the next trip to the bathroom....and it will NOT really affect feelings of "hunger" related to your body's crying out for calorie fuel.

The best, safest, easiest overall diet I've ever heard of (although medical supervision is always a good idea): your basic diabetic diet---Google American Diabetes Association and hit the links.

Good luck in fighting the Battle of the Bulge!

Of course you will loose weight because your body will go into starvation mode. When starvation occurs the first thing your body uses for fuel is your brain. This is called ketosis. After about two weeks of this your other organs will begin to break down. I really do not reccomend trying to loose weight this way. If you want to loose weight speek to your doctor about getting on a healthy eating plan. I nearly lost my life to anerexia. I'm only in my twenties ,and I have to take ten different prescription medicines for various health problems because I've done so much damage to my body.

Sooner or later we all start to lose weight until the bones are all that's left. Drinking fluids doesn't help a lot with reaching that point. Maybe drowning in those fluids.

you "could"....but it would only be temporary loss. Liquid diets are not good. Your body needs roughage and certain vitamins and minerals associated with certain foods. It's best to follow a high fiber, low carb diet. The carbs are the culprits! Read up on low carb diets instead, you will be amazed on the fast weight loss in the first couple weeks! South Beach Diet is an excellent book.

Yes you can, but you can also lose your life. The total liquid diet is one of the most dangerous diets there is. A few years back, this was the diet of choice for rapid weight lose. However, after people started dieing because of it, it went out of vogue. I guess it would not hurt, if you went on it for 24 hours and then back to a healty diet.
