Because of bacteria. So green means icky and blue means salty.

ocean water that has less salt is bluer. that's why the waters around the caribbean islands and the galapagos islands are so blue. the green in oceans is caused by the plant life that's there. i guess that's why pond water is green.

The blue part comes from the water absorbing the longer wave lengths - ( redder colors ) from the white light leaving the blue. The greenish part of that is from plant-life AKA algae. moss, etc

pond water is stagnet and( not all pond water is greenish) and the ocean water is constantly moving.

Not sure of the exact cause but I believe it has something to do wht the types of bacteria and possibly plant life that are in the different environments.

suns rays consist of seven colours.they r VIBGYOR. due to their wavelength all the colours will b scattered of before they reach sea(except blue,indigo,violet).so sea appears blue.pond appears green due to the green plants grown underwater.their colour will b reflected back.
