Marky, I've asked this question before and like you it frustrates me having to mind read other drivers, for something so easy to do it's baffling that so many can't.
If we happen to pass each other you'll know it's me as I'll be the one indicating.

I was taught to drive way back in 1963 and to date, have never had a serious accident. My driving instructor said that whilst the use of indicators was mandatory and preferable, a good driver should also keep a safe distance from the car in front and should anticipate changes of direction of the vehicle in front by its position and change of position on the road. I have found this advice invaluable and whilst it is very annoying to witness drivers not using their indicators I have also found that my screaming at them, giving them the finger, hooting the horns, etc. does not do any good either. I wonder if modern day driving instructors tell their Learners that they are supposed to use the indicators or has this been left out of the Manual?

Yes, it is a crying shame that so many people are so "D*mn'd" inconsiderate, and "flat-out" don't care about the rest of us who share the same road as them!!
Yet, they are the first ones who cause an accident! Then the "pecker-woods" start pointing the finger at the other driver and blaming them for the accident, because they did not have or use E.S.P. to know what the "lame-brain" was going to do, so they could get out of the way in time to prevent the accident, in the first place!!
It is getting to the point that NO MATTER how "Safe and Cautious" you are, and alert you stay while driving, the "inconsiderate and uncaring" drivers believe we are "lucky" that they let us share the road with them; and we should "stop" driving if we don't want to be killed by them!!!
Afterall, it is our fault for letting them "T-Bone" us, or "Rear-End" us, because we didn't realize that they have to talk on the cell-phone or read the "sports-section" of the news paper while driving, so they don't "miss-out" on their so-called busy lifestyle, or lead us to believe that they are not important, because they aren't trying to "multi-task" like they do at home or work, so they can "trick" the boss into thinking that they are doing their job, and are a valuable part of their company, so they can't be "Fired!"

It would seem that most people are terrible drivers...you try to give yourself some space between the vehicle in front of you and some butthead jumps into it..and when you back off again another will do the same thing... everyone is in just too big a hurry these days... Turn signals are fine but never trust another drives signal...if you at a stop sign and you think that drive to your left is going to turn in...better wait unless you want them to make a bad depression on your car and you...

I often watch people manoeuvring about on the road without indicating. I have to say I honestly think they do it to show disrespect to other motorists, this may sound paranoid but I think some people try to act like pricks on purpose. Another reason why people don't indicate maybe because some people won't allow people to change lanes in front of them, so the person wanting to carry out the lane change doesn't indicate so the person who may speed up to block them, doesn't get advanced warning.

Actually, there is one place you will see people using their indicators. In the Florida Keys there is the 7 mile bridge connecting two islands. There is no where to turn, but often you will see someone driving the 7 miles with their left turn signal on. It gets to the point you wish they WOULD turn left.

Yes, laziness does it.
Of course one of the worst thing is to rely on indicators when people use them!
The are after all only indicators and you are expected in law to anticipate that they may change theri minds. Relying on someone else indicating nearly got me killed on a busy roundablout once when they changed their mind and continued around the roundabout rather than turning off it.

LAZY and bad habits.....I have a 12 yr. old daughter and four grown Sons.....all my Sons use their signals. We DO drive a bit faster than most but that's also my fault as I generally drive 3 to 8 miles over the speed limit....but you can ask any Nascar car driver and he'll tell you that speed DOESN'T Kill, it's the impact that does and if you driver carefully, you be fine. That means using your signals.....having very good breaks (and knowing when to use them and not to) and one of the most overlooked reasons for accidents is worn out tires.

people aren't very considerate these day when it comes to driving they don't think that using a indicator light helps anything, just like having the bright lights on all the time, that's rude to,but most drivers don't care they have one thing in mind, and that's to get from point A--to point B and what ever they have to do they will usually do it to get there, good luck hope this help,s.

The real reason people don't use indicators is safety. Since they have a cell phone in one hand and a coffee in the other, it would be far too dangerous for them to attempt to use the indicator as well.
