It's for my father-in-law, and I don't really know him that well, so I was thinking something general? any ideas? he's in his 60's and I don't think he has any hobbies.

Do some "homework" im sure there is SOMEONE you can talk to regarding what he likes and doesn't like!

Get him a pet. Pets help to keep an old man occupied, especially since he doesn't have any hobbies. What about a pet fish? It takes up little space and isn't a nuisance.

Get him a gift certificate. Then he can get what ever he wants. Get him in that fruit of the month deal. I think you can sign up for that on the web. Then he will get a new fruit every month.

I think the gift certificate is the way to go. Then there is no chance that he can say that he doesn't like it.

Yes, do some research. But if you cant find anything that way a nice pocket knife would be nice.
