I went through high school in the early 70's (calm down, this ain't no lecture) and we learned about diseases, pregnancy, and anatomy in biology. I think that is what should be taught but, I don't like the label "sex education". It scares some parents and students alike. After all, sexual performance can only be learned from one's partner. What one person likes may not be good for another. That part should be learned by two people mature enough to be able to relate to one another on such matters. I'm avoiding the age stigma here on purpose because it really doesn't matter. What matters is maturity to take responsibility for your actions. Given all the information available in today's society I think one should be able to make reasonable choices if that person is mature enough to do so. If not, maybe you better wait awhile!

Judging from all of thee pregnancy questions on Yahoo, I would say that sex education is useless. I had sex education in 8th grade. Our teacher mumbled, blushed, and cleared his throat for two weeks. We could not understand anything he said. I still wonder why they had a man teach a room full of girls.

My husband had sex education in high school. It was taught by a promiscuous young female. His class asked crazy questions which only increased their curiosity.

yes its very important! to educate about pregnancy and proper contraceptives and infections- for some reason alot of people out there see the withdrawal method as a form of protection - if these people were properly educated they would know its not atall and the risks of getting pregnant or an infection are very high.
some people can go for years without knowing they have an infection from unprotective sex and can sometimes leave them infertile. sexual health is very important and people need to beaware it can be very dangerous!

YES. sex education is not about learning how to have sex...

its about knowing what is ... how it is .. and what it does.

It educates people into having safe sex... and even prevention of unwanted pregnancies.

yes because adolescents think about it constantly. it is better they know the true facts rather than pick up exaggerations and distortions from books, Cd's and websites. besides a lot of them will settle down once their curiosity is fully satisfied. the class should be such that even the silliest of doubts gets clarified.

it's extremely important to educate young people about safe sex practices. young people always have the "it won't happen to me" mindset when it comes to std's and unplanned pregnancies, and they need to be educated otherwise.

Of course, and it carries on throughout your life.

Its important firstly to prevent unwanted pregnancies, secondly to inhibit the transmission of STDs, and thirdly to train you to do it properly..........I want my partner to enjoy it as much as I do, so it helps to know where everything is - if you know what I mean!
