It depends on the amount of chocolate that the cat has eaten. Chocolate is harmful and can be deadly to dogs and cats. I would contact your Vet.

I think that the best idea is to call and ask to vet. I don't think a donut has much if any theobromide as it is found in high concentrations in even a small bit of dark baking chocolate etc. or larger amounts of any chocolate. However, you should do whatever the vet tells you to do which might be bringing in the pet for observation. How much the kitty ate will be an important question. What a silly kitty-must have a sweet tooth.

Mike a says that he is a vet? Hardly, if he does not know that cats can die from chocolate just like dogs. I'm pretty sure your cat will be safe your cat ate chocolate donut....Most chocolate on donuts are chocolate flavored not actual chocolate.

Chocolate is very TOXIC to cats and dogs, and can cause death I should know my cat died of an chocolate overdose. He got into the Halloween candy 3yrs ago. True he got sick and vomited, but later died at the animal hospital.

Chocolate is very TOXIC.

Chocolate has an ingredient in it (theobromine) that is deadly to cats. But the good news is that there actually is very little theobromine in dairy milk chocolate, although your cat actually ate quite a bit. He may be having a reaction more to the fats and sugars in the chocolate then any toxic ingredients in the chocolate. If he was going to have a serious problem with eating the chocolate, it would have shown up before this. But if he suddenly gets super agitated, then consult with your vet. But now you know he is lightning fast, and can get anywhere and do anything.

Yes they can die from chocolate, They lack the necessary enzymes in their livers to break down chocolate. Strangely enough animals can survive small amounts of white chocolate or dark chocolate. Strange huh?

Cats can eat chocolate. It used to be believed to be toxic, but that is not true. They cannot eat it in large quantities, but a small amount will not hurt your cat.

My cat helped my parents dog eat a box of chocolates and neither the dog or cat got sick.

Take care,
Troy

It is not deadly poison for a cat and may cause some diarrhea or vormiting. Cats don't tend to eat enough of it to cause serious poisoning. Dogs are particularly susceptile to a fatal poisoning if they eat it "straight" as they will ingest a great deal of at once.

Certainly something to keep out of reach of the cat.

The theobromine in chocolate is toxic to cats and dogs. It causes the heart to race and can lead to seizures and death.

I would call the veterinarian to double check with him. He may just want you to observe the animal right now. He may not have ingested enough for it to become a problem.

I think so, because dogs die from eating chocolate, but you should ask a vet.
