it is normal...my son is 4 and has been curious since about 2.5 years old...its a form of masturbation, even though they dont know what that is yet...a child will find a spot on their body, whether it be their penis, vagina, bottom or breats and they will touch it...something goes off in their brain and says hey, that feels nice so i will keep doing it...thats a form of masturbation...

not to be gross, but sometimes my son will touch his penis and it will become erect, the first time i freaked out because he is too little to have that happen...since then, i have become a psychology major and read LOTS of books on toddler behavior..

in the morning, my son will kind of hump his bed too...it is natural, its your child exploring his body and realizing what certain things can do...if you punish him about it, he will continue to do it, or grow up thinking that sex and masturbation is forbidden...he will grow out of it so just leave him be

I personally do not think you have anything to worry about – especially not at this age. I highly doubt that he might even be “humping” anything as you put it. He may just be playing, (in a weird way grant it) and all kids are a little weird anyways. Now if he were say, playing with his privates constantly, or getting aroused (which I am sure he isn’t) or something more along those lines, I would change my opinion. However, as it is now, I do not think he is even exploring at this point – let alone the fact that he knows what that even means. Children are easily distracted, so if you find this potentially problematic, just try to keep his mind preoccupied with toys, games or something else he may like.

When dogs do it we let it slide. Keep in mind he's only 3, at 3 all you can do is follow instinct. The best you can do is whenever he starts doing it, distract him somehow. Read him a story, put in his favorite dvd, anthing that gets his mind off of what he was doing. But, there isn't anything wrong with it. I think you just don't like to think of your three year old that way. I'm sure it's not sexual at all, it may just be some sort of comfort thing. We all have our own little quirks. Try not to make a big deal out of it.

Ok momma, lets make this one simple. I have 2 kids, boy is 6 and my girl is 2. This is normal and it's up to you to decide how to handle it. I wonder if he has seen dogs in play with this behaviour. Kids love to imatate, that is how they learn by example. If you like, tell him that dogs do this and not little boys. He will grow out of it, just give him time, but don't ignore it. The behaviuor will not just simply go away. It may help for him to be around other little boys, that aren't doing this, and ask him if he see's the ohter boys doing it. Remind him that he needs to be a big boy if he wants big boy things and acting like a dog in that manner is not being a big boy. Good luck, and if it gets out of controll, ask the Doc and see what he says. The doc can help in more ways then just giving shots.

It is actully natural, I was told to ignore the act when my child is in private. But in public desipline the behavior. I guess they are exploring, although as a mom I found it disturbing. Just amke sure he has not seen too much and immataing a behavior, that is a diffrent story all togerther. (Like make sure he doesn't see daddy doing this to mommy)

he is probably doing it because it feels good to him. I wouldn't make a big deal out of it. I would call your doctor and ask if it is normal. My son did it , but not all the time. I think it's when they realize something is there that has feelings. How long has he been pottytrained. Maybe he misses the extra material the diaper had.

First you must ask yourself where he has seen this kind of activity. As a parent I agree this isn't natural. Is he being exposed to things that he shouldn't? At this age getting him to stop would be as hard as getting him to stop picking his nose. Good luck!

My son just turned 3 and he doesn't do this yet, but believe it or not I have heard of this and it is normal it is something kids just go through, they all have little phases they go through.I'm sure he'll stop soon.

It actually IS natural. He's discovering his penis and it feels good; the only thing you should be enforcing at this point is that he keeps it in his pants in public.

Its just a phase and if you react to it and tell him not to, he will do it just to spite you. Just ignore it and the behavior will go away.
