My sis is 27, divorced, 1 kid. Since the time she was a little girl, she had great imagination, like almost every child. But now she just makes up so much stuff, and what is worse she believes it! It could be everyday believable thing or completely sci-fi story and I don't know why she is like that. My mum tried to take her to see specialist, but she thinks everything is OK with her. I feel sad for her, why does she have to lie? It didn't start with her divorce, I suspect it was one of the reasons for divorce. Is she ill? What is her diagnosis, how can I help her?

That's a shame, but it's a lot more common than you might think. I have know some people like this. And you wonder....why would they lie about something so silly, when they could have just said they truth. Yes, she is mentally ill. She needs to see a psychiatrist, but if she doesn't think she has a problem, she's an adult and there isn't anything you can do. BUT you don't have to listen to her. It's called "loving from a distance." Tell her how you feel and that you just can't be with her like this. If she should get help, then you would be more than happy to resume your relationship. Then she knows why you aren't taking her calls or seeing her. It might be the jolt she needs for help.

lying is a coping mechanism that people use to deal with a perceived difficult life compulsive lying can be a personality disorder and also can be associated with borderline personality disorders and some cases bi polar disorders since this started at a young age it is probably treated by therapy it can be a long and difficult to treat medication is not usually used look up compulsive lying on the Internet that would give u more insight i know its frustrating for you but their are usually a reason why is is acting this way people that lie like this don't realize they doing this good luck you are a good sister if she is not suffering too much in her life and doesn't want help there is not much u can do to change her

Yell in her face "you are a fuc-en LIAR"
I have liars in my family and it seems to run on my Moms side of the family. Some lies are O.K. I think like if your in a job interview and you beef up your experience a little so get the job you know your qualifie for. My older brother would tell my Mom that I stole all the CDs I have when in fact I used to spend a lot of my money on them.
Its sick, thats all I know for sure.

A pathological liar, is somebody who can not help themselves. The inference is they can't tell the version between perfect and incorrect: ie they dont comprehend its incorrect to lie. in many circumstances while people call others a pathological liar, they dont recommend it in this strictly literal or medical experience, they only recommend the guy is often telling lies. That of direction is thoroughly subjective.

she could be a pathological liar or has trouble dealing with reality and uses it as an attention getting or defense mechanism
in either case she needs therapy

i don't think she is ill...she wants to escape...seeing and dealing with the truth is painful at times..also i believe once someone starts to lie...they can't stop..it becomes in charge..it becomes easy and more colorful...can you tell that i am someone who absolutely hated myself when i lied and strive to overcome it...i'm very aware of everything i say...so even the smallest of deceit on my part bothers me..
