A preschool usually means a school for children of preschool age, sometimes defined as 2.9 to 6 years of age, but it can depend on the individual school and/or child. A preschool, versus a daycare, has educational goals and usually a vision and/or philosophy that guides their teaching methods. Montessori is a specific philosophy and/or method of teaching, named after developer, Maria Montessori. I'm not sure if the method's practice goes beyond elementary, but know that it is used for preschool and elementary. If you search her name on the internet, you can find out more about her and the method. Hope this helped.

I heard Montessori is better also. They said Montessori teaches each student at their own pace, whereas preschool has a set agenda to be followed. Kids that do not do well with regular preschool usually do much better in Montessori schools. This is what I have heard from several parents.

Montessori is a type of teaching developed by Marie Montessori. It goes from preschool to 5th grade. They are independant franchises so check out the one you are interested in because they can be slightly different. Most parents are very happy with Montessori.rv

a preschool is any school that prepares your child for grade 1, be it Montessori or a traditional setting as opposed to a day care that simply provides playgroups without any academics.
the difference is the method of teaching. a traditional school will attempt to carry all the children along at the same pace while a Montessori education will take each child at their own pace.
Montessori education is a specific method of teaching as opposed to the traditional method of teaching. children are directed(show how to perform)/taught basic life skill which encourages independence in the very early stage.
the curriculum is divided into practical life, sensorial(uses different apparatus to develop and refine the five senses while laying the foundation for later academics, most especially maths),language, math and cultural subjects; these are geography, history, botany, zoology and music.
the materials used in teaching are didactic/self correcting and so the child can see and correct themselves when they've made a mistake.
Montessori education introduces all things/subjects to the child first in a concrete form and then the abstract as children learn with all their senses.
it is a very sound foundation for any child.

the difference is montessori has a specific curriculm base that they teach from it was created by Maria Montessori and is still used today in many areas of the world. A very basic description : they believe there is a specific way to play with interact with toys, activities etc.. i.e. stacking blcoks are for stacking you make a tower with them in preschool yu could use the blocks to hold things if they are hollow, you may lay them side by side to make a long train thing, you can take them to the house centre etc Montessori house center items are for playing house etc.. Its more indepth than this explanation but you get the gist

Montessori way of teaching was started by Dr. Maria Montessori. She based her theories on observing babies and toddlers while working with them (watching them learn in the practical way of things). Go to: http://www.montessori.edu/ It has all the info you want on "Montessori". From there do your comparison.

From what I understand Montessori is a way of teaching independence. The learning is styled so that kids do most of the teaching to themselves with guidance from the staff. The kids read the directions and move at their own pace. A great way of learning for those kids who are self motivated. Also, in the preschool level they stress independence in daily living. They teach kids to pour their own drinks, make their own lunches, dish out their own food and so on. Things you would normally think a parent does for their kids but sometimes wish they could do themselves.
