We seem to hear many religious leaders complaining about secularism, but freedom of religion under a secular Government with proper separation of church and state is the only guarantee of religious freedom for a religiously diverse citizenry including those who follow no religion.

The only reason I can think of for any religious leader not to be enthusiastic about secularism is that it will not give his religion special privilege or enable his religion to dominate over all the rest.

Are there any valid objections to freedom of religion under true secular Government I wonder?

It's astonishing that religious leaders can't see the value of secular government. Religion has thrived here like it has in no other free society precisely because of the separation of church and state. Wait...maybe I'm against it now.

We seem to hear? I haven't heard one religious leader complain about our country being secular. And just which religion is trying to dominate us? Catholics? Other Christians? Seems like you are putting words into the mouths of others and then making a lame argument about that. Our country has always been secular and I don't see people running around talking down about Jews or any other religion. But that being said, our country was founded as a Christian nation, but still secular. And, by the way, our country is the number supporter of Israel, a Jewish country. We support and help many countries that are Hindu, Muslim, secular, and whatever else there is. The United States has been the number source of aid to all the world without regard to their religion or lack of religion. I don't hear any religious types complaining about that either. Actually, they do just the opposite. Go figure ! Issues like abortion are made into religious issues by pro-abortionists. Seems like a person can not just think that abortion is murder, unless that thought is based on religion. By the way there are plenty of atheists that are pro-life too. They probably just listened to the Pope now and then, don't ya think?

Contrary to what the delusional Born Again X-ian above says, the First Amendment assures freedom of religion, and all that it implies. Last time I checked, most people considered the Bill of Rights part of the constitution.

But he/she has been listening to their religious leader's dogma, I suspect.

The problem is, and the religious leaders know this, the average American has no clue what "secular" means. Something like "liberal," which they believe is the definition of anyone who disagrees with them on any issue.

Some religions cannot coexist with a secular government, because secular government is against their religion.

Sure, can't you hear the Christian right is sounding boots and saddles right now, and freedom is not compatible with the war they are getting ready to unleash on all the unfaithful. Jefferson, who pushed for this would be rolling over in his grave over what is going on today.

Nowhere in the US Constitution does it say anything about 'separation of church and state'. That is a liberal myth.

Those words were written by one of the founding fathers in a private letter, which is not an official document.

Oh, it's clear.

It's just that the "religious right" has tried very hard to distort what the word secular means.

There are none, of course!!
Unless you as a religious leader are scared of losing your followers when you can't force them to follow you anymore.
