Ive just dunked some rich tea, they go soggy very quickly though. I think the best could be ginger nuts as hold a lot of tea!

It has to be a good quality ginger nut, or finger.

One I used to enjoy dunking years ago was Barmouth biscuits, I think I spelt that correct, they used to go like toffee, and were delicious, although I have not seen them for quite some time!

It would be nice to know where this tradition of dunking came from, as lot's of people do it, and maybe manufacturers should start adding a "dunk-ability rating" on their biscuits!

I agree Rich tea biscuits are poor dunks, they either drop into your tea, or all over your clothes.

Thanks for your question, happy dunking.

Good morning my dear J: Of course I dunk. I'll be serious here for your 'research' and spare the cheeky comments in my brain ;-) First let me clear up something for wowwhatisthatthing and anyone else that is not familiar with UK culture. In the UK, A biscuit is not what yanks serve hot buttered, or on a plate with gravy. A biscuit in the UK is what is commonly called a cookie in North America. That said, let's have a wee history lesson. Dunking did originate with the poor folk, out of necessity, as poor folk oftenly have to make do with stale baked goods. Dunking softened biscuits, donuts and cakes that were starting to go hard and also brought out a more fresh flavour. It's the flavourful bit that has kept the dunking tradition alive in the modern day of preservatives in baked goods. Now adays, people of all classes dunk. The blue bloods even do when no one is there to pretend to think it vulgar. In America, it is pretty much expected in public coffee and donut houses. One chain of these is actually named "Dunkin' Donuts". Their logo features a dripping ring donut hovering over a coffee mug. So folks, dunk away and enjoy. Anyone who pretends it's vulgar likely does it in secret. I have not met a child yet that didn't like to dunk cookies in milk.

Best is a Penguin or better still an Australian Timtam. Take a little bite from opposite corners (so top left and bottom right). Put bottom right corner in the tea and suck through the top left corner. Has to be experienced to be believed!! Otherwise Happy Faces are grrrreat for dunking. You're right about the Rich Tea, it's a very fine line between success and total disaster xxx

Hob Nobs are the best! Chocolate Hob Nobs dunked in milk are DIVINE!!!
Shortbread fingers or biscotti are great with cappuchino or hot choc.

Digestives are rubbish in hot drinks as the just melt and you get slimey bits at the bottom of your mug but they're not bad if they're chocolate coated and dunked in milk cos the choc topping holds it together.

I'm really hungry now!!!

Hob Nobs are the ultimate dunkable biscuits. Rich Tea are pathetic, and they're snobbish because you have to break them before they fit into your cup.

Custard creams and jammy dodgys need a good dunking but Niece bicuits (you know the little ones with sugar on) have to be timed to perfection or it breaks off in your tea which I call pobbing but my boyfriend says I have made that word up but I am sure I haven't.

Ginger nuts are good dunkers along with digestive biscuits. I fancy a bit of dunking right now. See you after a brew.
