This could mean many things, depending on how open and honest he is.
Could be that he has a great deal of things going on and does not feel he has time to invest in the relationship he feels is necessary.
Could mean he wants to start dating other people.
Could mean he wants to break things off.
Really, you will need to speak with him and ask him what exactly he wants from this relationship, why he feels the need for a break. If he is unwilling to give you some specific answers, I would just move on. It takes a level of maturity to handle a relationship and honesty is the key factor necessary. It means different things for different guys and different situations. Usually, it means just as it says, taking a break from one another. Allowing things to cool down, get your space back, become stable. Sometimes, "taking a break", is an easy way to call it quits. Sometimes, "taking a break", means they're feeling suffocated and just need time. I suggest going along with it, giving him space, allowing him to do whatever he needs to do. Then hope the two of you get back together once he's had enough time.

Lets call a spade a spade. This is a brake-up. Your bf is just to much of a wimp to brake things up. He is also trying to keep you on a leash so that if the fling he is having at the moment, and believe me he is, does not work that he will still have a chance with you with stupid things to say like, I now know that I can not live without you, I realised I missed you and that absence mae the heart grow fonder line that always cracks me up. It means just that. He is most likely thinking about breaking it off with you so get ready for this to happen. Some guys just don't want to hurt you by coming out and saying it.

oh no! girl, you obviously doesn't know what's going on, don't you? when a guy said "let's take a break", it means why not we just separate for the time being and let things cool off temporarily. it may not mean you guys are on an argument and needs time to cool off, it can be because your r/s is going on the down side, he needs time to reconsider the r/s with you again. that really depends if you're willing to let go of him and this r/s. talk to him and understand what's going on between you & him. good luck!

Oh no..based on my personal experience..he might think that you are irratitatin him and he might like another girl...taking a break kind of means that he doesnt want to continue the relationship for a while and he might change his attitude or love towards you in this time..watch out..and stay cool..accept changes..=D

For me its always meant that the guy is in need of some reassurance. He might want a little time to think about things. Just give him a Little bit of space and he may come around.

It means he doesnt want to be with you anymore but he doesnt want to hurt your feelings or is too chicken to do it completely. In rare cases he actually DOES want to take a break. Maybe he is swamped by a lot of things going on in his life and he needs to take some time to think, or maybe he wants to be with someone else.

It means he needs some time to figure out if he loves you or not. Guys generally aren't that hard to figure out. Don't try reading between the lines of what he says. We're not smart enough to put stuff there.

Either he is officially putting you on the back burner so he can date someone else or he is sublty breaking up with you and doesn't want to hurt your feelings. My advice listen. Smile. and get gone before he can wiggle his way back.
