My 2 year old son has a cold. His nose gets very stuffy and filled up and he hasn't learned to blow his nose yet. (we're still working on that) So I am having to use one of those sucky things to help him out. But every time I get everything out he ends up with a bloody nose. Any idea why? I am very gentle when doing it and I am extremely careful not to go to far up in his nose but it still happens. Should I be worried? It doesn't bleed to the point where it is running out of his nose, just enough to make the edge of his nose red with dried blood.

As I said we are working on blowing his nose. And I wouldn't be using the sucky thing if I hadn't exhausted all my other options.(humidifier, vicks under the nose, cold medicine, etc..)

Little Colds makes a slaine solution to help loosen mucus in the nose. I have two varieties for my little one. I have the plain saline solution, and I have the saline & decongestant. The severity of his cold will determine which one I use. That helps to loosen the stuff and prompts them to sneeze. Often it will get him to sneeze hard enough that it clears everything in his nose.

You are probably just scrathching the inside of his nose enough to cause the little blood vessels to bleed. His nose is already inflamed from the cold. Try getting a plug in near the cold medicine aisle. You put these little menthol strips in it and plug it into the wall near his bed or wherever he is resting. It will help his stuffy nose. Hope he feels better soon.

Try getting him to blow his nose by practicing with a candle. Kids love to blow out candles. Show him and then let him do it.
You may just have to wipe his nose instead of using the bulb syringe. There is a children's bath product that uses vapors to clear noses. You may want to try that at night to help him sleep.
Good luck.

It's probably dry inside. Try having a humidifier in his room for naps and/or bedtime. Other than that, maybe try some cold medicine that will loosen things up and help it come out.

Just wipe his nose! I know it is a headack, but aleast you won't hurt him. Put a little vaseline under his nose to keep it from getting sore. He is to old to use the snot sucker, that is for lil babies. And its use will prolong the training of blowing his nose!
