Yes, and it will be until the end of time. Name-calling is a childish practice and usually used by those who have nothing more intelligent to say.

Yes and no, it depends on what has happened, what the argument concerns.

What I have learnt is that insults, not just racism, are sometimes used just as a way of getting a reaction out of the other people/parties involved in the argument, not because the person actually is a racist or whatever. For example, a husband argues with his wife. The argument might get so heated that he calls his wife a "fat cow". He doesn't think his wife IS a fat cow, but if positive control of his temper is lost to a degree where he uses an insult to cause a reaction, subconciously he looks for the thing that he thinks will cause the biggest reaction and possibly hurt the person most, in this case his wife's figure/weight.

A similar thing can happen with the racism viewpoint. If a white man & black man are arguing and it spirals out of control, there's a chance that the white man may call the black man a "ni**er" or another derogatory term, as he knows that this will most likely get a reaction out of the black man; similarly the black man could turn round and call the white man "white trash" or whatever. They would never think of using the terms as part of everyday life, but in the heat of the moment and look for something that will trigger the other person off, and in this case the biggest visual trigger would be the difference in skin colour. This doesn't make them racist. There are so many insults that are thrown around between people when they argue in the heat of the moment, and most of these are completely forgotten afterwards when things have calmed down. But the subject of racism is so sensitive that one throwaway comment can suddenly make you a racist.

Yes of course it is.The race card is old, wore out and ineffective in this issue. If one chooses to stand up to the unlawful, and to want whats best for ALL the people and not just a few of one race then they throw down the race card thinking it will scare us into silence. I for one will not let this stop me in my own personal life or in the love of my country.I will continue to take a stand for this nation and all its legal citizens. The word racists doesn't have any effect on me because I know who and what I am and words can not, will not label me anything but a legal American, that loves her country.

There are of course millions of racists here in this nation, they come in all colors and forms. When someones only argument against something is an others race ,then that of course is racism.I was thinking only in terms of the things I see on this forum. The ignorance of theses racists do not define the rest of us that do not use race related terms in our arguments and objections ,should not be painted with the same brush as the ignorant that say hateful things to not only Mexicans but black Americans or any one else for that matter.
Last night some person posted a list of what he called "dumb girls "on this forum.I give him credit he is an equal opportunity sexist,he posted about equal numbers of pro illegal and anti illegal supporters.Do I think he was a raisins, some "girls" were white some were Hispanic and some I didn't know.I was posted as one of them.My point is this, hes simply a small minded person of equality small mentality. He may be a racist too ,but why give his words any credence by calling him names in my defense.Defense from what his blatant stupidity?
Words are painful and should never be used to hurt someone with. But they are only words not bullets and there for have no power over you unless you enable them.I don't LOVE all people but I don't HATE all people either.I can not hate an entire race that's just ignorant and unthinkable. We all deserve to be treated with respect,so stop the name calling on both side.

I don't know if it is the last resort, but I have heard it said before. My question is: Why is it only racism when the debate is between the majority class and minority classes. Doesn't racism travel in both directions?

Yes, the racism charge is as good as a white flag of surrender.

For instance, I hired an employee a few months ago. She was supposed to report for work at 8am on a Monday morning. I didn't see nor hear from her until Thursday afternoon.

When I told her she did not have a job she said it was because I was a racist.

I have no doubt that there are still pockets of racism here in America. However, we're almost immune to the argument because the race card gets played soooo many times when truly not applicable.

It's kind of like when your in the parking lot and hear someone's car alarm go off. You no longer look because you've witnessed so many false alarms before.

Those like Jesse Jackson and others who want to make us believe every wrong has racial undertones does his own cause injustice. He belittles the movement of true equality.

Sometimes...it depends on the situatuation. If a person calls a Mexican a **** or Dirty Mexican to get a view across, then that is racial. It is blatantly attacking a person and their heritage. On the other hand, if a person refers to a situation and they discuss it saying that a group of Black, Asian, Mexican, or White man/woman have killed or done something bad and you are just trying to convey that groups behavior, then you are just making an observation. Some people will try to defend their race by saying why is it even an issue and then claim racism.

I do not agree, it does happen often, by it's not always racism, it could be physical violence, foul words.. etc. But yes, that does happen and it is very sad to see people that are unable to maintain and support their premises to go to a "source" such as racism, which is simply stupid and unfounded.

Yes I agree with you. But that's not to say there is no racism because there is and its not right. If I like someone it doesn't matter to me what color they are and if I dislike someone it doesn't matter what color they are, I either like them or not based on their personality.

Yes, unless the racism is blatant.
