A co-worker has a toddler who is very afraid to go to sleep at night because he can hear the wind in his bedroom. The house was built within the last 5 yrs. Already tried moving his bed from the outside wall to the inside wall, and putting a quilt over the window. Don't want to use ear plugs as the child has sensitive ears and had some trouble hearing his first few years (and was a late talker). Any ideas?

I did a bit of research on this issue and didn't come up with other people having the same issue. However I would suggest a sound machine. Something that plays a noise continuously that is a little louder then the wind. Many of them come with the sounds of waterfalls, birds and other stuff.
If you turn this one before he goes to bed it should help to drown the noise of the wind out. Hope that helps.
Good Luck!

i think the best thing to do would be to understand that the child has a true fear. love the child and assure the child that everything is going to be fine. or leave some sort of music on when the child don't hear the wind.

Just tell him the wind wants to talk to him and that he needs to talk back and tell the wind how he feels. How does the child go out? Tell him that it's okay. let one of his frineds or parents walk into the wind and show him it's okay, and let the friend hold his hand or parent and show him that the wind won't hurt, tell him that the wind is just telling us snow and christmas is coming.

Put a CD player in his room with some soothing sounds or lullaby's until he goes to sleep. He will outgrow this fear. The music will help distract him. Good Luck.

Talk about how you breathe and explain that the wind is only the world breathing.
