Keep track of everything you eat or drink, then add up the calories to see what your total is.

You can find most of the information you need on the label of the food package.

Pay close attention to serving size. Many people have several serving portions of a food. Chips might be, 17 chips serving size is 140 calories. Another kind of Chip might be 8 chips serving size and be 120 calories.

The serving size is just a way to know how many vitamins and calories you are getting by eating that food. It does Not mean don't eat more or less of it. You have to decide how much of it to eat... based on how many vitamins or calories you want in your body.

You might be surprised how small some of the serving sizes are. Most ice creams are half a cup... this is like 5 or 6 spoon fulls... and this may be 240 calories per serving. Quite easy to end up with 3 servings.... 720 calories.

If your losing weight you might want to be at 1200-1500 (woman), 1400-1800 (for men) calories per day.... wow 720, just the ice cream is half your calories for the 24 hour day !!

If you eat healthy foods, you will find that the calories don't add up very fast. You can eat a lot when you choose healthy things.

look on the packaging for calories in each item (do total calories, not from fat calories) if you eat out or anything like that then some restaurants have books and websites that give u calorie counts. if you arent sure u can go to calorie-count.com, they have just about anything u could ever need to look up.

1200 is a bit low. i would shoot for a 1400-1600. b/c even fruits and veggies have some calories and u dont wanna starve yourself.

calorie-count.com also has a calculator that gives how many calories u burn with each activity throughout the day

Go to CaloriKing.com. They've got an extensive food database.

Learn what a serving size looks like, too.

And unless you're a pre-teen or something, 1200 calories a day is too low. You should ask your doctor what's right for you.
