lassie goes pretty for back there, when you take into consideration that there where movies about that dog long before the tv series. there was also a movie about the dog of flanders. i don't remember that dogs name though. rintintin was also a tv dog but i believe that he was after lassie on tv. also there was asta, the dog in the movie of nick and nora charles. that is pretty far back also. then there is petey, of the our gang and little rascal series. that's old too.
