Steam room and sauna are not ment to burn calories...trust me i've been using one for 2 years not...It just clears your pores and detox's you. It gets rid of your excess water weight...I think 30 mintues is too long...you might want to stick to 15 minutes....you may lose too much water and thats not healthy either...

About the same amount as sitting on the couch watching TV.

Your muscles are what burns calories. Not heat, in a sauna you're sweating because your body is trying to keep itself cool to prevent damage to internal organs that operate well at only certain temperatures.

You will exit the sauna a little lighter because you sweat out the fluids from your body. But you have not lost any calories or fat.

Now you will need to replace that water. Your body needs to be fully hydrated to be healthy.

Think about this... If you leave a batch of cookies in the oven too long... they are very dry. Break one in half and it nearly crumbles. Well your body is if flexible and made to move... every cell of it. Take away a bunch of water... and the cells begin to get damaged when they move from lack of fluid. This is why it is so important to drink plenty of water.

It's an odd comparison... but your body is suffering minute damage with every movement, every breathe of air, every heart beat... ect when you aren't drinking enough water. If your going to use a sauna... drink plenty of water.

A 30 minute sauna creates approximately the same amount of perspiration as a 10 kilometer run .
That is a lot.

A suana will only help you lose access water weight, which doesn't really help you very much unless you've got to weigh in for a wrestling competition.
