This is an interesting question, in reality we don't know if the dogs have flees or the flees have a dog, don't you think?...

All animals can get fleas. Do not over bathe your dog as that will hurt the dog's skin. Unless the dog gets filthy, a once a month bath with brushing in between is usually enough. Flea collars don't always work and can cause irritation to both dog and owner. Try a product like frontline. Fleas, like ticks and mosquito's need the blood of an animal to reproduce (the females are the only ones who bite). You might have to treat your yard to keep down infestation. Good luck.

Fleas can be found almost everywhere... they reproduce quickly, in large numbers and are very tough little buggers. Unlike lice (human lice are different than animal lice) they are not specific in who they will attach themselves too; which is why they can thrive so easily. All they need is a little blood. Fleas can live in grass, carpets, in the walls of a house etc... It really has nothing to do with cleanliness of the animal. It is easier to get rid of them if the animal is groomed on a regular basis.

As a loving dog owner, I keep an air rifle at home and as I see the little bug**rs jump, I shoot them.

Ignorant idiots, dirt has nothing to do with it. Fleas are parasitic and will get blood from any passing animal. They live in your furniture and carpet, not on your animal. They hop on and off every time they need a nosh.

with proper care and attention a dog will not get fleas use a flea comb regularly and a flea shampoo when bathing if needed, i have 7 dogs and i have never ever seen one flea on them, the recommended bathing is twice a year but i bath mine once a month.

they have fleas because they have been near another dog with them and caught them. if your dog has fleas in the uk we have Frontline flea spray and pippettes and also its good to get some Indorex household spray to spray carpets etc..in the US there will be an equivalent of these. they come highly recommended as i work in a vets!

Same as people with nits. Doesn't mean they're dirty, just come into contact with something or someone carrying fleas. Bath or shower and pur flea powder on. haircut etc. etc.

not all dogs have fleas. If you treat them well and bath them at least once a week then should be no problem.....try a flea collar, even so all animals are prone to carrying fleas.
