I am using a Windows XP Professional SE. While trying to burn CD I get a "WRITE ERROR" message at the late end of the burning process. I have tried cleaning the lense and have also tried burning the CD at lower speed. After the burning is 99% complete the WRITE ERROR message pops up. I have tried using both Nero and Windows writing programe. I dont have any problem with reading the CD or DVD. While the CD burning fails, some of the data still gets burned on the blank disk out of which only a few percent of the data is usable.

XP Pro SE?? Do you mean SP2? SE is only valid for Windows 98...

Anyway, this can be due to multiple things. Incompatible DVDs with your writer (ex: you writer only supports DVD-R and you're trying to burn on a DVD+R) or an out-of-date writer.

I've actually had many problems with an old HP CDWriter device, similar to yours. Sometimes, you just have to throw in the towel and accept that it is not worth spending more time on it. New DVD burners are about 50$US. I suggest you buy a known brand (avoid cheap ones...) and everything will work out great.

Good luck!

This problem looks like the same as Micheal Bauermeister's.
If this ISN'T that idiot, then skip over the next paragraph.

M.B -
Listen, you stupid f*ck. You've got a lot of nerve posting here after the sh*t-brained question you posted yesterday. Useless, brainless, ****** kids like you ought to be taken outside and shot in the gut and be left to bleed to death. You might as well just off yourself because that's the only worthwhile contribution to society that you can make. ****** kids like you only grow up to be bigger *******. You're WORTHLESS AND PATHETIC. If you tried saying what you said to me yesterday IN PERSON, I'd f*cking rip your head off, you dumb-*ss little sh*t.

Your DVD drive is bad. Other problems might be a bad EIDE cable, you need a firmware upgrade for your DVD drive, or maybe there is something wrong with your motherboard.
You can make sure that the drive is bad by trying it in a friend's computer.
I'm sorry about the previous paragraph. If you want to see what a pathetic loser this Micheal Bauermeister is, then just click on my name and view his Question.

make sure you are purchasing the proper blank cd's for your drive. if you have a 16x drive and you bought 24x cd's it can cause problems as you describe. also, you may have a bad batch of cd's. try a name brand disc. they cost more, but just buy a couple and see if it solves your problem.

if it isn't the discs themselves, you have to look to the drive for the source of the problem. if it is under warranty have it replaced. if not, consider replacing it yourself - it isn't that difficult at all.
