Since most of the terrorist fly in.. That fence better be really high. Look if things keep going like they are, Mexico and Canada will put the fence up for us, to keep the US from going over there.. :)

Paul B,
You need to look at the terrain on the Mexican and US border. You will find out that it is very mountainous in many locations along the border and these areas do not need a fence. So the fence will be installed on the most severe areas. I doubt that this will solve the problem, but it certainly will help. Some attempts have to be made to protect or borders good or bad.

The bill is crafted in very specific terms. There are deadlines to be met for each part of the wall. This, presumably ties in with the amount of money that can be appropriated for this in the current fiscal year. It won't solve the problem but, as a wise politician once said "Politics is the art of the possible." I doubt a bill to put a wall along the whole border would not have been possible.

Well we focus on the south while the north is still wide open too. It's like a farmer putting up a 700 foot fence on a 2300 foot area to keep wildlife out. Makes no sense.

Look, the idea with the fence is to appear to be doing something, while not really obstructing the low paid work force from entering.

As I understand the Republican ultra-capitalist ideals that they would actually welcome the low paid workforce. Perhaps mexicans are the only thing keeping some companies in the USA... However, if you make them legal, then they get more wages, and would defeat the whole purpose of a low-paid workforce. Hmm.

I totally agree with you! This is how politicians take the spotlight off the real solution:
1. Imposing strict fines and penalties on business that hire illegals.
2. Homeland security creates an illegal alien detention center and has buses, etc - to ship illegals back to homeland.

A fence will do nothing - it is a waste of money! We need a barrier. Policiticians have done nothing to protect the jobs of thethe HIGH SCHOOL GRADS and GED holders in this country. They are Americans and their families built this country. They deserve better!

It should... but you must start somewhere, and this fence is supposed to be at the 'worst' points.

It will help some but it will not 'fix' everything.

Every little bit helps. It is supposed to be more added later. Also, they will use electronic surveillance and more border guards.
