I would like to know whether they can be detected, regardless of size or quantity. Thanks

Are you talking in checked luggage? It depends on what type of machine your airport is using. Some will alarm on a high density item, but it has to be quite large. A ring wouldn't be enough. If you are trying to smuggle the Hope Diamond, don't check it in your luggage :) Plus, unless the item (large quantity of diamonds) looks suspicious, even if it does alarm, they can manually check the bag and clear it.

That depends on the quantity you're talking about...I have 2 carats in my ears and a 3 carat on my ring finger, and they pass fine!
