My ex and I broke up Labor Day weekend..We were together
4 years..some good some bad, he has a substance problem
and was verbally abusive. I know I made the right decision. Now
I am feeling I want to start dating, is it too soon?

There is no rule of thumb here. When you feel you are ready then go for it. What do you have to loose except your heart.
I started dating again the day after my previous brake up and still is with this woman. It is been going strong for over a year now.

There is no laid down rule as to when a person should date after a breakup but its advisable to breath some fresh air after a breakup for a while as its not good dating when on the rebound as it usually has negative effects.

i went out with my fella for 3 years i am 19 and he was 35 but did not look it at all.he was a control freek but lovely sometimes and was a big joker.but he had a drug problem (cocaine) thats what made him paranoid other than that we got on wicked but i couldnt deal with it so finished it 3 months ago and as i knew someone before hand who i had been chatting to we went out as a couple like 3 weeks later!!! but it felt right as me and my x were finshed long beforehand but were just use to each other. i am now 7 weeks pregnant but i no i have found my soul mate who doesnt do drugs rarely drinks and is so lovely to me and younger!!! (23) people have judged me by saying god thats happened quick but it werent planned and i am happy as i didnt think i could have kids.people feel different for others at diff stages.i just feel so strong with my new fella.so go for it!!!makes you feel so good xx

its never to soon to start dating again if your not in love with the persoin then you need to move on and if you did love them then you still should see other people think about the other one their out there seeing other people well you have no more feelings for this person so move on with your life ok bye

My advice when you feel you are ready and are completely over the guy start dating....you know when you are ready...

If there are no kids involved, I'd say start dating whenever you want! However, if there are kids involved, you may want to consider how they're adapting and how it would effect them.
