Feeling left out?

Maybe you should do the trendy thing and adopt one from Africa! How cool is that! You will be the bell of the ball at your workplace.

People do tend to go on and on about their kids. I know I have done it.This is probably because parent hood is an awesome responsibility and the single most important life change a human being makes. Most Mom's cant figure out why single women go on and on about their boyfriends so every age of a womans life has these same questions. We go on and on endlessly about those people who are the most loved by us.

usually it is because all people have in their lives are their kids. when you work 40 to 50 hours a week there is no time for anything but going home and enjoying the company of the little miracles God put in their lives. Kids are the greatest thing that ever happened to a person! I have 5 myself, i love talking about mine.

I agree; why would anyone want to hear about someone else's children if they didn't ask to hear about it? Great, so little Harry or Harriet is SUCH a darling to their mother, but that doesn't mean other people think the same/want to hear about them. I may be crazy about healthy eating, but I try my utmost not to bore others to death with it; people tend to get sick of things when they hear about them too often. The thing is, when people have kids, they take up pretty much all of their time so they're left with nothing else to talk about, so it all ends up pretty dull in the end. Shame really.

This can indeed be extremely trying.

But I think the reason for it is that it is a topic that women can safely share on.

Often work colleagues have very little really in common, and discussing their children at length disguises this uncomfortable fact.

How predictable that the majority of respondents presume you don't have kids or state that you will someday. Our society use the fact that you have children as a way of somehow defining you as 'normal' and that you fit into their comfort zone and are somehow more acceptable, hence the need to constantly re-enforce the fact that you have children.i.e. constantly talking about them, pictures in wallets, 'child on board' sticker in the car and worse crime of all, bringing new baby in to parade around the workplace!!!

It's a safe topic and most parents are so proud of their kids they just can't help it although I know it can be boring!

The sad answer is that everyone's favorite topic is himself.

Going on and on about your (pregnancy, attempts at pregnancy, baby, toddler, kid) is a socially accepted way to talk about...yourself!
