I have worked very hard to keep the magic alive. I think my kids were skeptical around 9-10. Their over the top Baptist father thought it best to tell the "Christian truth" without consulting me. I think I was more devastated than they were. I insist on the spirit of Santa and will not hear of anything else. I now have a 19 month old and I think my older boys will understand as they watch him enjoy in the magic of Christmas over the next couple of years. Their belief and trusting is so pure when they are little. It is like their innocence is being lost when they realize the "truth". I still use special wrap and tags for Santa gifts that are not used on anything else. Santa always leaves a personal letter for each child too. I will probably do this forever. For my kids and someday my grandkids too! Just keep telling him that Santa exists, even if he knows otherwise. Keep the magic alive. He will someday thank you for that. I remember when I found out there was no Santa, I was so disappointed. And once my parents knew I knew they didnt make such a big deal anymore. It is probably silly, but will make great stories later in life in how the Santa charade took place every year. Everyone needs to believe.

What do you mean do the kids still believe in Santa. Are you saying he doesn't exist??? Who brings the feckin presents then.
Actually i have to say that i had an uncle John who every year was Santa at the local school. I used to go and see him and always recognised him and he would wink at me. So right up until i was about 10 i honestly believed my uncle was santa. It was like a cool little secret between me and him.

One of my daughters is 8 and states that she will always believe. My 12 year old stopped believing at about 10 years of age. I guess she just figured it out.
It's funny how some people will say they wont "lie" to their children about Santa's existence but turn around and confirm that there is a fictional character called Satan. LOL!!!

My 10(almost 11)year old son still believes in Santa. He has not even questioned his existence. I will let him believe as long as he can...you are only a child once! Oh and by the way, I don't think letting a child believe in Santa, Easter Bunny and Tooth Fairy is a disgrace..I agree with you!

I was into my teens before I allowed myself to start dis-believing.
My Daddy made it so special for me. On Christmas Eve, he, my mom and I would go to all the traditional lengths for Santa... putting out cookies for Santa, carrots for the reindeer, glass of milk, Santa letter, all the works. They would make me go to bed early, and my mom would sit with me for a while (she did every night) and eventually I would hear Santa outside, complete with sleighbells, "hohoho" and reindeer pawing on the roof. I didn't know it until I was probably 10, but it was my Daddy outside shouting and jingling, and throwing big ice cubes at the roof to make reindeer noises. I peeked out when I was about 10 and saw him, but would never have told him for the world because of all the trouble he went to. Anyway, we would get up on Christmas morning after they had been up all night putting things together, and we would go in to the tree to find all of the Santa gifts assembled, candles lit, just magical! One year (and it made a lot more work for them) I asked Santa in my letter to please wrap my gifts from him. Then not only did my parents have to wrap everything they got me, but all the Santa gifts too. And there was always a letter to me from Santa, written by my Daddy or mom using their left hand so that I would not recognize the hand-writing. (It's funny now, I look back at those letters and notice that the tooth fairy, the Easter Bunny and Santa all have the same handwriting!) The family dog would contribute a nose print for a reindeer nose print. It was just so magical, that even when I was old enough to know that Santa as a person was not real that I hated to let the spirit of Santa go.
Now I can look forward to doing all of these things with and for my daughter who is 6 months old!!!
Thank you for the trip down memory lane... it was highly pleasureable, and I hope that you and yours have a wonderful Christmas season!

I have 3 kids, one is now 16, he stopped believing at about 9 yrs old, at that point his sister was 6 and little brother 1, he carried the secret on for them but I knew he knew. My daughter, now 13 was about the same age when she realised, she too kept he secret for her brother. My youngest son is now 8 and he still believes, despite being told by the kid that bullied him at his old school that he didn't exist. I think its a wonderful time for children and think they are slightly deprived if they are not part of the whole Santa thing!

Our children know of Santa, but as for believing that one man delivers presents to children around the world, they do not believe in that. Nor have we ever told them that.
I just didn't see the point of telling them something and then telling them it wasn't true.
I can't remember how old I was when I stopped believing. I just remember my brother told me and then he showed me where my parents hit the presents LOL.

My daughter is 8 and is sitting on the fence - she is asking alot of questions and occasionally says to me - "he's not real is he?" trying to catch me out - i think she's in two minds.
My 5 year old on the other hand still believes if she's naughty she will not be getting any presents on christmas morning! Those were the days!

I found out at about 7 and that was the same time my daughter figured it out. Some kids keep going along with it because they think the gifts stop if the Santa story is uncovered!
