Perhaps the oldest religions, existing today, would be Hinduism, with a recorded History of over 25,000 years; Shinto [Ancestor worship] which developed in Japan some time after, Judaism which has close to 10,000 years recorded history, then Christianity, 2006 years, and Islam around 1400 years old.

There were many Religions like the Grecian, Roman, Norse and a host of others, but they are now dead.

It really doesn't matter now does it? The 1st may not B the strongest. It is pointless proving theirs was first if their's is not the strongest.

Some of the oldest religions recorded are from Egypt, middle east, Zoroastrianism, Hinduism etc. although many older religions have not been recorded.

If you are looking for the strongest case, then Islam has it. Why? B'cos it is recorded as the Final religion and is the detailed version of all other religions from Adam's to Judaism to Christianity etc ( which were summarized versions). and not even the rulers or Khalifs were given permission to alter it. It is also the strongest b'cos it doesn't touch only on spirituality but on every aspect of life. Nothing is vague, the rules of the game is clearly recorded. It also doesn't have a caste system. So it has to have the strongest case.

None of the major religions today, with the possible exception of hinduism have much of a claim on being the oldest. Although there will be some claims that the earth is only a certain age, in order to validate their holy text, there is archeological evidence to the contrary. In the European region thousands of years before the monotheistic religions there were matrifocal (meaning woman centered no hierarchy) societies which were based on Earth godesses we would term pagan today. The Sky gods are a more asian interpretation and when barbarian groups invaded into the European region tens of thousands of years prior to the monotheistic time lines there was some blending of beliefs between regions.

Even in the torah one finds that when Abraham was called there was a common consensus of polytheism in that social context, so the monotheistic religion he is the first member of (adam and eve should not count on this type of scale as they do not do seem to have any recognition of a difference between God and they) the newer monotheism of his region.

Paganism, in Sumer. Most label it under Shamanism, but shamanism isn't a religion. It's more like being a priest/ess of a religion. Historians and archeologists claim that Goddess worship is the oldest form of worship they have found so far. The proof is in the writings of Sumer (where the Epic of Gilgamesh is supposed to have originated) as well as cave drawings and other items, small stone idols etc that show a form of Goddess worship.

Goddess of the Moon was the first religion. It was partly because women were attuned to the moon with their menstrual cycle, which was a strong fact that influenced their lives. Men saw that women gave birth - that began the matriarchal worship. Men at first didn't realize that they had anything to do with the birth of babies. The Matriarchal Goddess religions were dominant for centuries until influential men wanted the property laws changed. Instead of property going from mother to daughter, as in the old days, they wanted the property to go from father to son. Thus Christianity - the Father God was invented to satisfy this desire.

What status does being oldest put on it? Anyway, my guess is sun worship. And it turns out, in terms of worshipping that which gives us life and sustains us, they made a better judgement than any of the organized faiths.

I cant really say which one. All of them have some type of hypocritical evidence here and there.

If there was solid proof then there wouldnt be so many religious wars out there and arguments because the evidence would be sitting right in our faces.
