*gasp* dont do that please! Besides adding to greenhouse gases/global warming, burning trash will only release more harmful vapour and gases into the atmosphere and will be in more direct contact with living organisms!
I do not think there are any benefits of disposing trash by burning it.

I guess since it doesn't go to the landfill, you save space and minimize leeching of some refuse into the soil. Also, I burn old utility and credit card bills, bank statements, etc., to protect against identity theft, etc., but other than that, I personally, just enjoy burning trash, sticks, leaves, and the smell of it. I guess it's part of growing up in the country to me.

it is not always necessary that you will get only the benifits...
you may burn plastics which is very harmful to the environment.
benifits include: less space consumed, saving identification, preventing reuse of an old container,

its harm is much more than its benefits (if there any beside volume reduction)
burning tash is like transferring pollutants from a (contained) solid state to another form/s in the gaseous state.
