I go to one and somehow got on the subject of helping others. The scenario in discussion was what would you do if you found someone lying ill on the floor of a train. I hadn't even given my response when someone said "I bet Poopsy* (not my real name of course) would just leave him lying there".

You seem to have got a reputation in the group as a bit selfish. Personally, after that comment, I would have said:
'Yes, I would leave him. I would go and alert a member of staff who are trained to deal with it. He may have been concealing a weapon, or had just injected himself and still had the needle in his hand.'
I am a trained nurse, and I very rarely tend to people I find in the street cos its just too dangerous. Leave it to the paramedics who get paid for it.

Were they trying to be funny? Do you know the person? If not I would confront the person and ask them why they would say such a thing. It's better to be up front right away and not let this sit with you where resentment may grow, or make you feel uncomfortable going to your Bible study.
Good luck & Lord Bless Poopsy!

Perhaps they know you, sadly we would leave someone lying on the floor of the train, they are probably O.D ed or pissed, they might die in which case you have to attend the inquest, like someone lying in the road having crashed his pushbike, bloke I know phoned ambulance next thing Plod round 6 in the morning first light dragged him off and swarmed all over his motors looking for damage, could not find anything had to let him go, so don't bother, even the poor Samaritan probably ended up out of pocket.

I would suggest lightening up a little. A sense of humor never hurt anyone. Plus, it is likely that the person was trying to get under your skin to cause you to say or do something inconsistent with your faith in order to invalidate it. Don't let them. You set a much better example of Christ's love and acceptance by just laughing it off and continuing to show love to this person.

Blessed Be

I have a theory. I think that a lot of the people who come to these forums are searching. I think they are missing something, but are too stubborn to admit it or ask for guidance. There are also a lot of religious nuts out there who ask for the abuse. They are so '' in your face '' with their comments and preaching. They have turned a lot off with their judgments. And yet another group who has seen way too much '' speaking with forked tongue ''. They have witnessed many who ''don't practice what they preach''. We used to call them " Sunday Christians ''. I try to reach out to those people. I answered one guys question and he sent me a personal message debunking? my statements. We ended up writing back and forth 3 times. I said he was searching, but he denied it. I went into his space and saw that he has asked 73 questions, 60 of them being about religion. All of his questions were mocking religion. I just felt that he spent way to much time and effort mocking . I mean basically, it seemed the very reason he even started was to ask questions about religion. I haven't replied to his final question yet. I am afraid I will say the wrong thing and scare him away.

Why do you feel the need to go to a bible group anyway? From my observations, those that attend them are fairly sad people, desperately seeking social acceptance.

You know how and why helping others is a good thing to do. You don't need to sit around discussing it. Who cares what someone else thinks, it's what you think and do that matters.

Don't generalize this to every Bible group... I have had some very bad experiences in Bible studies...

The thing is, everyone is human. People don't always act mature. Don't let the few spoil the whole group.

Does religion BLOCK the right of people to freely express themselves?

If so, Atheists are right!

Let's face it, Matthew, Mark and John were vastly different temperments! Jesus held with all of them!

the same thing happens to my mother when she goes too. that's why I'm an atheist. I don't feel I need to make excuses for religion anymore. to answer your question: they are just mean people anyway. it's not personal. they are probably like that all of the time.
