A little background, co-worker FINALLY moving out of parents home at age 33-Will have another room-mate who is already in the apartment. What's a good gift for my co-worker-Male, no girlfriend, can take a joke so I know the "overnighter" is on my list to get him (condoms, toothbrush for "her", and so on). Need a serious gift too but not too expensive. BTW, he's a really great guy.

Yeah. Believe it or not booze (if he drinks booze) is actually the gift that he will appreciate most in the short term.

You want a gift that will endear him and be useful and not too expensive.

Get him a non stick fry pan, a plastic spatual, and a carton of eggs. Include a home made card that says "MINIMUM HEAT ONLY".

It shows you care and that you are looking out for him.

If you want too get him something that will make him yell "cool" then get him a pocket knife.

Not kidding even a bit on this. Pocket knife is the best gift for any man. They will yell "wow" or "cool" or "kick 455" every damn time.

Hope this helps.

Does he have a decent corkscrew? I typically use a swiss army knife as I'm too lazy to buy a decent corkscrew for opening bottles of wine. Tools are a good option. A very small swiss army knife (signature series) for the keychain is good. I know of men and women who have one and it is very useful. I've seen a few guys who have a mini-leatherman tool if you want to go one level up from a basic knife.

you need something that will last and remind him of friends --- a plant can be good but only if he will care for it --- something to personalise the place he is in --- you know his likes and dislikes --- go to a bargin store and check around --- something will strike your eye
