Depends on the problem. They wont take you if you have a current mental health problem. A past history of mental illness, may not prevent you joining, such as a single episode of depression, which has now resolved.

Apparently you can. My husband is in the Army, and it seems like most of the people we encounter have mental health problems, seriously. I'm not sure exactly what your mental health problems are. Talk to you Dr. to see if he/she thinks it's okay for you. Then go talk to a recruiter and see what he says, be honest. You don't want to join the Army and then end up having to get out with a medical discharge or because of "failure to adapt." Good Luck.

Probably not. The Army will do a mental health screening before you join and will probably not allow you due to past medical history.
