That is absolutly ridiculous. All my Muslim friends - men and women - dont think this. They only know that you have to wear a hijab (covering your hair), the other veils have nothing to do with Islam, but is cultural. This Imam is extremly conservative and taking things out of context. He doesnt represent the view of all Muslims.

Using a veil or not using one makes no difference. This is about a religion that oppresses and subjugates women This is about people (Muslims) who do not respect others (Non-Muslims) and will not live in peace with them. Islam teaches that women are stupid and worth one half of the value of men.

So after Female Genital Mutilation, honor killings, poligamy, abduction of women (http://www.copts.net/demands.asp), forced marriages, and so on, why is anyone surprised about this? For more information about the status of women in Islam refer to the UNs "Arab Human Development Report 2002" (look it up on the Internet, please!), written by Arab experts about the discrimination and prejudice against women in the Arab (ie, Muslim) world. It addresses the widening gaps in freedom, women's empowerment and knowledge in the Middle East.
Also, according to altmuslim.com the number of mosques in the US that segregate women behind partitions or in backrooms has increased considerably. Also, see what is happening to women in Egypt: http://bigpharaoh.blogspot.com/2005/07/egyptian-women-emancipation-egyptian.html

There are things worse that being a woman under Islam: being non-Muslim. Quote: "So, fight them till all opposition ends and the only religion is Islam" (Koran 8:39) and Koran "Muhammad is the apostle of Allah. Those who follow him are merciful to one another, but ruthless to unbelievers" (48:29)

It all goes back to Islam's dear prophet. He made a rule that his wives must be veiled - all 9 to 16 depending on the count. Of course, other Muslims could only have 4 wives. (Doesn't that seem suspicious?). Now remember that the Quran says that Mohammed is a "good example" for Muslims if they want to get to paradise and have their 72 virgins, so that is why Muslims want their women to cover up. Notice that Muslim men don't need to wear blankets on hot days. It is always the women that get all the cute rules.

This may offend some people, but it is time to ask the hard questions and stop being foolish about this religion, any religion.
It will get worse, much worse, because Muslims are in denial and cannot be honest.

Another quote: Ibn 'Aun reported: ...The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) made a raid upon Banu Mustaliq while they were unaware and their cattle were having a drink at the water. He killed those who fought and imprisoned others. On that very day, he captured Juwairiya bint al-Harith.

If you put aside women in veils, and think of what clothes women wear. Isn't is strange that a more a woman covers up the more desiring a woman becomes.
What shocks me more about a woman in veil, is the hidden rebellion beneath the veil. My mother noticed the other day a that a Muslim lady had very strong black eye liner on and jewellery around her wrists and sexy lady shoes and strong perfume you on.
I would have thought she was more at risk then a woman walking down the road naked-----enticing men lol

Dear

We live in a society which is very troublesome and religions are being questioned, and soon may go in instinction,
Many times people tend to join culture with religion and make a point,""it does not make sense""A womens beauty is threw her hair ,well etlis that is what the Sheikh may believe,What if women were to cut all their hair, would they still need to wear a veil?Nothing ever makes sense,The Sheik is a man with allot of knowledge, but he speaks and deals with many countries which are not civilized, were people still rape and abuse ,for that reason he may sometimes generalize his speaches, dont take it personally.

I feel modesty is important for everyone, but covering your hair and face is really not necessary. Why would any woman want to hide beauty that was given by God just because some MAN says so? Why don't the men have to be covered from head to toe?

the same thing happened here in the uk where a school assistant refused to remove a veil when teaching children. in my opinion she should not have been employed in the first place if it was a problem. but i also think that all this story is a bit of a piss take as they should try to adapt a bit better to our country which is offering them plenty of opportunities and same as we do not want kid/yobs wearing hoodies in the mall, the full veil should be kept undercontrol.

By suggesting that by merely looking at this "uncovered meat" men cannot control their sexual urges he is insulting men and women.

He's just feeding the bad stereotype that Muslim people are already getting.

i think properly covering is a protection to women but in my personal opinion i do not think you can ever blame her for a rape.... the same way you might not walk around in a bad neighborhood to protect yourself from robbery..... but if you have to or choose to walk in such an area and you are robbed i wouldnt say you were responsible for it...... you may have made it more likely but you certainly are not the robber

but also if you finished reading the article on this you would know that muslim leaders in australia are speaking out about it!

***** this is just my opinion

ps i myself do cover

Reverend R. Bosworth-Smith said;

Head of the state as well as the Church, he was Caesar and Pope in one; but, he was pope without the pope's claims, and Caesar without the legions of Caesar, without a standing army, without a bodyguard, without a palace, without a fixed revenue. If ever any man had the right to say that he ruled by a Right Divine, it was Mohammad, for he had all the power without instruments and without its support. He cared not for dressing of power. The simplicity of his private life was in keeping with his public life."

"Philosopher, orator, apostle, legislator, warrior, conqueror of ideas, restorer of rational dogmas, of a cult without images; the founder of twenty terrestrial empires and of one spiritual empire, that is Muhammad. As regards all standards by which human greatness may be measured, we may well ask, is there any man greater than he?"

Depends on where you live.

In England it's easier to live without the veil.

In parts of Iraq, it isn't!
